Steampunk Myths and Legends Entry: Gunilla Elam

#121

Dear buddys, it warms my heart to see your welcome.

I’m really curious about how I will make her functions look convincing here - and what style I will use for the water. Some testing will have to be made for this.
Unfortunately that can’t be until later, there is some kind of Christmas thing happening that interfer a bit with my plans.

Have some really nice couple of days, lot’s of snow and gifts I wish for thee :wavey:

#122

Hey Gunilla nice work on steamboat:thumbsup:. Don’t worry too much about making the functions convincing, it should be more promising and little convincing:). One suggestion from me is make the textures little dirty. Maybe some small rust but don’t overdo it. You can add some texture details directly in photoshop with blending and masking techniques.

Keep up the great work:)

#123

First test for the main comp - with only 13 days left!

#124

Roshan - thanks, and yes - a lot of stuff have to be made in 2d if I’m gonna finish in time.

Here’s the fist test for comp, somehow I think it looks to calm and peaceful. I will try some more versions to see if I can find out anything better.

#125

Alternate comp, I think this one may work out better. Any opinions?

#126

Yay Gunny, the second comp looks much better, maybe tilt the camera a bit to give a more dramatic feel, the horizon doesn’t always have to be on the horizontal for an image to work. Just a thought.

#127

Yep, for me it’s also the second composition…more drama and we can better imagine the fate of the little boat!

I’m already curious to see your solution for the water…impatiently waiting for the next update!:bounce:

#128

for me too, I vote for the second composition… with a camera more dramatic…

It’s very apprecied to see your update Gunie… now it’s sure, all is possible… you can finish in time…

I’m sure to discover great things when I will be back in 2009…

while waiting… Happy New Year for you and all your family and friends… and have a great party  :wavey:

#129

Indeed, the second. Always go for action shots :D. Maybe have the heads staring at their next juicy meal :stuck_out_tongue:

#130

Yep, the second comp works for me too. Great to see you’re in this still in this, impressing us with updates

#131

Yeah Second one looks good:thumbsup:

#132

HAPPY NEW YEAR !

#133

Hello Gunie…

I’m back… I wish you all the best things for you, for this New Year 2009… and especially much interesting jobs of course

Happy New Year Dear…

lolo

#134

The second composition is the best also for me

#135

Steve - thanks and yes - a tilted camera might be just what’s needed!
I’ll do some tests for that.

Sabie - ahaha yes, the water… I’ve kind of avoided that until now but I think that has to be the next step. thanks for cheering.

James - thanks, and some heads are now in better position for their next victims

Mark - thanks, and if I manage to finish this in time I’ll be impressed too …

Roshan - thanks!

Gilles - And to you too!!! Thanks.

Lolo - thanks for the sweet greeting, always in style

Nico - thanks, the second it is then!

OK - so this time of year have been filled with a lot of other stuff so if I’m going to finish this I really have to speed things up. Gonna give it a try.
Below is an updated of the comp, some rough lighting added. Since I wont be able to render this on my home machine I will prepae the files and have the office machine render it. That will give me approximately three days for comp, adding of the men, water etc.
We’ll see how it works but I’ll give it a try.

#136

Some changes to the comp - time is running short now.
The remaining parts will be made in 2d.

#137

The new comp looks great. I notice the boat appears to be leaning back now, as though all the crew have run to the back to get away from the monster. Much cheering for you here in Sydney as you bring this to a finish

#138

It’s better like that of course…

what do you thing about a beast more giant, a cam more oriented, to be more afraid ?

a little bit like that :

#139

This was not at all my original thoughts for the water… but maybe something like this could work OK - what do you think?

#140

Mark - glad you think it’s improved. The leaning back is now due to a wave - frankly, I’ve no idea yet as how to proceed with the crew. Well, that’s the charm of it isn’t it? To have to skip the glourious plans made in the start for a quick and dirty solution.

Lolo - Oh yes, that looks much better. One thing, I’m getting really annoyed about the Skylla… don’t know if she could be so big. Maybe I have to redo her but will the time permit? At least her necks needs to be remade, they look awful :banghead:

edit: And how could this post turn up before Lolos? By the date it looks like your post wont be posted until two hours from now- that’s strange… could it be the ducks playing with the board!
