Steampunk Myths and Legends Entry: Francois Bourque

#21

The engine is almost done being built…
I know there is a lot of detail for nothing because most of it won’t be seen from the angles I chose ( also given the fact that my project will have a very “stylized” look to it - but I wanted to go ahead and do it anyway; It has everything from the gears and controls and reservoir, the belts and tracks - all fully functional, it really is a steam-powered wheel chair.
When I’m done maybe I will put up pictures with diagrams and text explaining what each part is and does.

waesome render. very nice style. you plan on keeping it, or was it just for show?

cool design. I miss some clunkyness, but who cares.

keep it up! :scream:

sorry to hear about your grandparents. Life is definitely a lot more important than a challenge. Do what you have to do and leave nothing to regret.

Best wishes to your family. If anything is needed, do let me know.

Thanks a lot for your kind words Jack.

…things have been getting better - and also, when I start something, I finish it, even if I don’t finish it as well as I would have liked, I still kick myself in the butt to get things done!

Right now, I’m working on some rigging as well as environment modeling, I know we aren’t supposed to link to other sites, but since CGTalk offers no way of hosting video, I leave you with this latest rigging WIP :

The only thing animated in the scene is the selected cylinder, the rest is secondary animation, simplistic rigging…

Looking very nice. As mentioned before is that render style used above going to be your final sorta look? Looking very nice. I’ve been playing around with some toon shading kinda rendering techniques recently and would be keen to hear how you did such a nice line render

Just testing the overall look/style of the short… Color hues shall be well, non existent - since black and white aren’t colors and are going to be the only two in the movie, with accents of red every now and then here and there, “à la Sin City”…

A plus!

I put together a combination of shaders and tracers that basicly render out my 3D models into 2d “Vector” style-looking pictures, so I’m using that as a base, and expanding on it.

The final style will be similar, very dark and gloomy… blacks and whites with red accents here and there (in the sky also, maybe)

i like the video. and I absolutely, definitely like your recent update. are you working with your sister on this? if so, pass my greetings to her.

#29

Hey Jack, hope you are doing good! How are your students this semester?
My sister initially wanted to lend a hand but she’s far too busy with uni. finals and such, she helped me come up with the story concept as well as parts of the wheelchair whenever she had a chance to drop by!

I’ll have alot of updates coming today and tomorrow since I have both days of work, so I can concentrate fully on my project! Time to get productive, so far not very good I woke up at Noon! I’m putting my alarm tomorrow for 6.

Just another WIP

Great design on the chair!..try adding an mini engine on the back along with few Spark pugs and hoses. Would make the chair more mechanical

Good Luck!
