Steampunk Myths and Legends Entry: Eric Browning

#2

I chose “Pygmalion” for my subject. This is my concept sketch.

#3

Well, here’s a face I haven’t seen 'round these parts for quite some time! How’s it been going, Eric? Nice concept so far, I like the angels. Looking forward toseeing where you go with this. Good luck, have fun, and welcome back!

#4

A little more work on the drawing, refining the idea and adding some detail. I need to figure out the background, I put down some ideas- like the radial lines leading to the porthole window, which I’m going to work in pipes and ornate stuff.

#5

I knew I couldn’t be the only person going with this myth. It’s a nice start- great poses, strong composition. It’ll be fun to see where you go with this.

this is super ebrowning! …love love the blank robotic stare on her face!..beautiful concept and i love the other elements/characters:thumbsup: …well done can’t wait to see more…will definitely follow your thread!

FIlling in the drawing, yes it’s cluttered, but that’s what I want. I hope to make the composition work using value, knocking back the busy background and pulling forward the girl/characters. I will ultimately tighten the whole thing up before starting the painting.

#8

Oh oh! I remember your master servant entry… it was one of my faves of the competition, fantastic to see you entering this one too. This is already a fabulous start, and I for one really like the cluttered look so far, even at sketch stage it’s fairly clear who the main elements are, so with colour and tonal adjustments added to that, I’m sure it won’t be a problem at all! I’m loving the little automated cherub serving guys, they’re so cute!

#9

Hell yeah! Eric B is in on the scene. I can’t wait to see you’re concept more developed. Good luck, and I will definitely keep an eye on this entry.

#10

Dude, I’ve always really liked your work… great to see something from you, it’s looking awesome so far!

#11

You guys are great, thanks for making me feel welcome. I’m glad I’m finally doing another one of these.

#12

I’m going through the drawing and “filling in the blanks”- solving any problems and drawing out everything that is going to be in the final painting. Looks like I’ll need to shoot reference for the guy, and there’s a tangent going on with the upper cherub.

#13

yay!.. Cant wait to see how this turns out… your grand space opera entry is still my fav pic of all the challenges.

#14

W-I-L is now my favorite person ever.

#15

Are you using multiple sheets of paper? This looks handdrawn, yet very clean. Great classical composistion and love her expression. She reminds me of a blow up doll (facial expression with maniquin like features) crossed with I robot for some reason. :-p I like this legend, and this is very interesting take on it. I normally think of My Fair Lady when Pygmalieon is mentioned. I think the left side needs some more background visible, but you said you were going to play with values. THe

#16

Blow up doll- yeah I think you’re right;) I’m using one sheet of tracing paper, but I have a pile of pencils and I just sharpen them all up and don’t pay attention to the color (it’ll get painted over anyway). I want to resolve every part of it before I start painting, I usually leave a lot of “unanswered questions” which cause problems in the final, so this time I want to avoid that.

Thanks for posting!

#17

I’ve taken this far enough, I’m going to do a quick value study and then move toward the painting.

#18

value rough…

#19

nice work. for some reason i feel like it is a bit of a claustraphopic image… perhaps the borders need to open up a bit more if you know what i mean… maybe put a few centimetres at the top of the image?

hope I have made sense with that.

#20

It’s meant to be cluttered, but I’ll look at it again. Thanks:)

#21

love those little angels! so cute!
