Steampunk Myths and Legends Entry: Chris Noeth

#2

This is my first CGChallenge.
I’ve just got the mail and even with all my other projects right now I had to sign up instantly.

I already have a picture in my head and hope I will find some spare time to show the first concepts soon.

CU around!

Good luck!

This is the first blown up thumbnail sketch I did for the challenge. It shows the idea I have in mind for my image: A huge atlantean steampunk war machine.

This is the first sketch I did for the challenge. It is based on the thumbnail and shows the idea I have in mind for my image: A huge atlantean steampunk war machine fighting against airplanes and battle ships.

nice sketch, looks neat … I like that contrast in sizes on tour scene …

is it 2d or 3d entry ?

#6

very cool sketch, love the pose and sence of scale.

#7

I like the look of this. I love the epic feel it has even at this stage.

maxspider3000: Thank you. This will be a 2d entry.

opentarget: Thx! Great you already like it

Eaglecaste: Thank you! I first thought about an image without the epic feel but it is nice to have some elements (like the planes and ships) which will add this sense of ‘epic’ to the piece.

#9

Cool idea…kinda Steampunk meets Godzilla! Keep coming with the updates!

#10

In step 3 I have changed the proportions of the robot torso a little bit. The robot now is higher so he can be more frightening later

I have added the base colors to the image, using a texture brush and a normal round brush with low opacity (photoshop).

The colors should give a first impression of the mood the image should have later.

#11

wow! love this dark steam-gothic-ish style!

#12

its looking very good
cant wait to see some more

will there be other features in the shot?

#13

Wow! Really stunning! Loving the dirtied up textured style with the brushes - really gives it that steampunk style!

#14

balfs21: Thank you very much. I never thought about it but now you mentioned it I can see the Godzilla in it  … hehe

AUMAKUA: Thx! Great you love the mood. I am trying to keep all the good stuff in and not paint too much ‘away’

Cyberone: Thank you! Regarding other features: I will add some ships, explosions and people in the water. You can see this in my next update.

Selina42: Thank you very much! Great to know you already can see the steampunk style in the pic

The update is coming… soon

Best wishes,

Chris

This is a detailview of ‘Step 4’.

#16

I have added some rough details to the robot structure.
Now you can see what I have planned for the look of the machine.
This can still change but it is a good guide to paint over later.
I have also added some rough sketches for ships, planes and people in the water.
A detailview of this image you can see in the post before this one.

#17

I really like the gloomy ambient. Good luck!

#18

I have been here like 20 times without a change… true… it’s been within a few minutes of each other but, nevertheless, I remain eager to see the next stage.

Meanwhile, I scream at my attempts. I have such a hard time with perspective and composition. If you want to revisit my attempts I would love your thoughts!

Really cool idea, and your WIPS are looking great!! Like lot the mood and enviroment on your image! and great details on the atlantean robot  Maybe a bit more higer canvas, with a bit more sky over the robot  only a comment  Again, awesome work and looking forward for more updates. Cheers!!

Chris man, this is shaping up nicely. I love the colour palette it really influences the mood, giving it a darker more mature feel. I can’t wait to see more.:applause:
