Steampunk Myths and Legends Entry: Bartosz Bialek
Software: 3ds max
Hello!
I just wanted to give you an idea of what I’m working on right now. These are 8 out of ~50 shots renderd - still without fx layer (some in random order).
…and only 19 days to go…I hope I can make it
best to you peoples!!
I really liked your Vid. The mood is great! :applause:
Man, this competition becomes more and more interesting every day!
Thank you Christian. Its still like half of the shot ready
I’m stillI rendering, most of the shots at 40-50fps to have better control over movie’s timing later but it takes a lot more both time and patience
best to you!!
same as PI^^ awesome work here. I love the dark style with the burning highlights.
40-50 fps? will you have some kind of slow motion in the final?
may I ask how much rendertime takes a average of your frames, with all passes, atm?
this will become a great short
Thanks Martin!
I will have some slow motion in the final that’s true also but overall I might need some shots to change their dynamics later during editing (or just some time range of those shots) so it’s a better way than pulldown etc. I render shots in basic layers of background and actors : beauty, lighting, shadows, zdepth sometimes hdr and reflection It takes from 20 sec up to 15 min per frame depending on layer or complexity
2:04hr to render another shot…
cheers!!

Hello!
Rendering is done! Now I’m working on compositing and postwork. Earlier I shot some FX footage (smoke).
This challenge should be a year long so I could do everything the way I imagined it but It wan’t so I’ll just put together what I got to this point.
I guess I can’t use music from Lord of the Rings so I’ll make my own
I started composing and by the way took some sound samples from basements, baths etc
…must get back to work now
Best to you peoples in this final hours!

Hello!
This is my final submission! And I just can’t believe how fast the last 3 months passed. Anyway thank you for your help and encouragement. I’m very happy I could participate in this grandest challenge of them all…
My movie is titled The maze. It’s a story based on the Minotaur legend. There was only one brave enought to face the ultimate enemy deep inside a deadly maze…
Reflections?
Hmm maybe one or two… .
Biggest challenges was to put a life into theseus and make him look and heavy, hampered and strong. I had some great fun shoting fx footages
And thank you for this oportunity
The final movie is a composition of over 24000 frames
It was my pleasure!

And for the rest of participants also!
Thank you and cheers!
hey buddy, congrats on finishing another challenge project! You started very fast and ended up with massive project. It feels like very art movie, where you have to watch and feel a very long shots, very deep… tell you, I was working with the theme of mazes and labyrints for my diploma projects, and the spirit of them is just about the same as in your movie. Maybe you could try to speed up some sequences in postproduction (time remapping or something) so your actions will work as refresher Good luck!
Hi there Juraj!
Thanks for your comment
In fact story ant it’s emotional impact was the main goal for me on this project.
Story was defined by moments when Theseus enters the maze, his lamp fades, thread ends and Minotaur appears. The main problem was to fill action between this moments.Result is as you can see. The size of this project slightly surpassed my expectations and there was a true race to have it finished on time (Some memorable nights:)
I’ve just tried to remap some timing (mainly in the clash sequence where I dreamed to remake 2 or 3 shots but didn’t have time) and the result is better…unfortunetaly we only had 3 months ! not an hour more…
And that’s a lesson for another project
Wish you all the best!
