Hey all,
I am a Lightwave/Motionbuilder user but due to issues with Autodesk and the future of Motionbuilder I think many users will be looking toward Messiah. I’ve not used Messiah in a while (1.5) and was wondering about the state of things in the Messiah camp.
As I consider alternatives for CA work, Messiah is at the top of my short list but I don’t want to end up with an app that forces me to switch again in the near future.
State of Messiah
Well, you will never know anything for sure, equal what you choose. They call that life.
After deals like the Alias/Autodesk merger or Adobe acquiring Macromedia, I don’t think you can be sure of anything. Just use now what suits you best.
Currently new life has been breathed into the messiah community since more information flow is provided by pmG/Taron. Many old bugs and annoyances are getting squashed.
So for CA, I would say go for it (you tried the demo, didn’t you?).
Prepare to maybe get PointOvenPro for a more reliable connection to other software than the messiah native plugins (www.ef9.com).
Depending on your needs, XSI may also be a good option, but is much more complicated and needs more technical understanding.
Cheers,
im really anxious to see how messiah plays with modo. that would be a killer combination. KILLER. for print you could use modos render engine and if you want animation, output with messiah. And since modo natively supports the lwo format i can see how they could work well together.
although it all comes down on how edges are supported too, with lw9 getting edge weights and all.
thomas, do edge weights transfer to messiah from xsi?
It’s good to hear that pmG is taking care of bugs. I’ve not tried the current demo but I plan to do that.
I own the Fondation version of XSI and also plan to dig a little deeper and see what comes of it but I like the “simplicity” of a focused solution. I may hold off and use Motionbuilder until Newtek releases 9.5, then decide,… but the pricing for Messiah is nice compared to XSI and MotionBuilder.
As a modo user, I also am interested (very interested!) in how well messiah handles, or will handle edge weights and n-gons. Not that I’m necessarily a sloppy modeler, but edge weights, well that’s a great great thing, and something that I’d love to see supported in messiah.
