starting out, maya vs maya lt?

are all the features for modeling, lighting, texturing, animation there in the LT version? Should I start out with this?

Maya LT is a joke. It’s crippled beyond recognition or usefulness.

Can I follow most beginner/intermediate tutorials on maya lt?

as long as they are modeling tutorials yes…
you cant render in LT so no tutorials in that direction…

If you are a student, you can get Maya and Maya LT for free. So if you’re a student and just learning, I’d recommend getting Maya and learning the whole thing instead of just Maya LT. Also, Maya LT is meant for things like indie game development props, things that don’t require as much power to make. I suppose it depends on what you want to do with it, but I’ve learned Maya and my 3D professor says that functionality wise, Maya LT is a downgrade. It’d probably be best to learn the more functional software first.
