start rigging a character

Hello,

I’ve finished modelling a character and i want to animate it but i don’t know how i have to leave the character to bind then the skeleton with the mesh.
Right now i have my character like this (in separated pieces) and i don’t know if i have to make them all as one object or leave them all as separated objets like i have them now.

This will be my first rig so i would be very thankful if anyone could tell me what should i do.

PD: I know that there’s the facial rig too, but i think that goes separated from this. First i want to know how to rig the body.

You can keep them separate. They will get their own skincluster when you bind them to the joints.

Hi
Keeping the mesh separate or combined depend on the ease to layout the UV and apply shaders. So it will be good practice to combine objects with same shaders. Too many objects is going to have lots of history like skinCluster and other deformers you add. Lots of history on the character make the final scene heavy to animate, render, open/close., etc. So you can decide where using the character and how you want.
