Squibbidations

#1

Hi peoples, decide to make a thread where i could hopefully get some
opinions on my artwork, do drop by with a comment or two every now and then

Here is the first piece, made it this morning, took about 4,5 hours to paint.

the stuff on the bridge are a tiny pair of shoes and a lollipop, but it isn’t that
clear , really, dunno what to do about that except for changing the image
resolution, i made it in this size.

I also played with the idea of replacing the shoes and the lollipop with a
kid dragging behind a leash, not yet having noticed the dog attached to
the other end having disappeared.

any comments?

hie squibbit~thats quite a nice painting u got here~i like the tree colors as well as the river as it looks like kinda thick and condensed.however,i think the angle seems alil linear and centralised, the overall feel is good, very interesting creature design though.keep it up mate~:)

Really nice so far. The mossy, weathered wood looks amazing. I thought the water was pavement, though. Most streams would look a dark brown color with off-white reflections. The orange of the grass throws me, too.

Kid with an empty leash sounds like a good idea.

#4

thanks, you’re both right

yea i gotta learn to render water better, too many times it gets mistaken
for pavement, hehe

ah well, how’s this then?

#5

Nice painting there Sir Squibs. I love the colors of the bush/trees. The water is definitely rendered better in the second pic. Good job.

#6

wow squib! These are fantastic! Lovely textures!

#7

Thanks!

And Lady Madalaine, one does not go saying to gentlemen “I want your brain”
anymore than one asks a Lady her age , tsk tsk … ah well, another crazy witch
stalking in the bushes behind the house and the week’s barely an hour old…

yea personally I liked the first pic more, cause the air felt colder and the atmoshpere
more autumn-like. Also, the monster had a spookier feel to it, while the one in the
second pic was more bug-like.

I tried to redo the grass in the first pic, ended up looking a bit sad. the water looks
better to me though, agreed? Another f-up was the mighty badly rendered powerline,
which felt like a nice idea at first… gonna keep it i think, if i manage to make it better.
And finally there’s the little girl, whose dragging the suddenly so light a leash.
No more time to work on this today, another day someone stole hours from…

hehe :stuck_out_tongue: but kind sir your brain is super fantastic!

I like the first one better, but I like the pylon in the second one because it adds to the perspective.

#9

I like your first one better without the girl. There’s more “power of suggestion” in it  Plus the pylon in the background kinda make the picture more “modern” or time-specific. Without the pylon it could be any time since man has built bridges and chldren have had lollipop
(well must be off now to look up the history of the lollipop… :lightbulb )

Perhaps, to make it a bit clearer, replace the lollipop with a doll or sumthin?

Great work

O_o now I’m nervous about walking over that bridge on the way home. Cool stuff, hehe, as always. I like the orange vines in the first version better by themselves, but I think it adds more variety to the picture when they’re green.

I like the water actually, but I think that what it is is the fact that it’s generally smooth with very fine ripples to break it up - maybe if you distored it more and added some shine? Especially round the edges. I love the wall under the bridge with the pond scum, great colours there. Favourite thing is the trees…ack they’re so orange and fluffy…and the pics better without the girl.

Keep on rocking there Squib :stuck_out_tongue:

#11

Wow, that first pic mate me flinch, as i only saw the top part, until the end of the bridge, and then when i scrolled down i saw the monkey thing.

[heart thumping noises]

ok, then, u silly sprite, I mailed u a thumb-sized brain piece, but dat’s
all u gonna get. I hope it grows back i feel dumber than ever now. Thanks.
Oh yea the cocroach in the package i sent is to carry the brain piece
into your head and put it in place. You just let it crawl in your nose, it
finds its way from there and remember to tie a string on one of its legs,
so u ca pull the bug out when it’s done.

Overchord - thanks for comments , good thinking with the doll idea and
yea the “power of suggestion” thingy adds to the spookiness.

Elsie - no reason to be nervous walking home, just take the walk with
Madalaine here and when u see some long, dark fingers approaching, just
push her to the beast and run

and i agree with you about the grass and the water, thanks

mr.loco - good to hear to have caused such a reaction, many thanks

.

#14

You mailed it me? I don’t think I recieved it, you sure you sent it to the right email?

Thanks squib, that beast looks kinda cute actually pehaps he will become a friend, I could use him to play tricks on people :stuck_out_tongue:

#15

snail mail , silly, one doesn’t send organic matter via email, yet anyways

yea that’s prolly what the little girl on the bridge was thinking before she got eaten.
that monster can manage a pretty endearing smile, heh

ps. thanks for dropping by, Korean Gargoyle!

.

#16

Korean Gargoyle??!!!

#17

sir quib has his funny names day i think

i agree that the one without the girl is better, despite of the grass. but i already told you that i think its better greener.

but the one i love the most is the one with the pink shoes: hahahahaa, thats what you get for wearing pink shoes :bounce:

#18

haha, made u not post “LOL”

(was referring to the image edit I made for you, hehe)

.

#19

hum all the concepts are so cool, but I prefer the girl dragging something. I also like the creature under the bridge!
congrats man, always doing fine!

Egads Squib, I don’t know what is more frightening your painting or the package for Madalaine. EEEEKKKK cockroaches.

I thought that the first painting was great! The orange grass looks perfectly normal to us Californians. In the summer time we see orange grass every evening around sunset when all the hills light up with golden sunshine. The dry straw colored grass gets a definate glow.
