squashed 4-3 from widescreen edit...

#1

Hello all,

Can anyone tell me where I am going wrong with the following -

I have an animation created at 720p
brought into premiere pro with a sequence setting of pal widescreen 169 (pix 1.4587)
Output to non-compressed avi (same settings as sequence settings; pal widescreen)
Created DVD

When playing back on widescreen TV though, the TV always plays the DVD content in squashed 4-3 aspect ratio (The TV is set up to play the original aspect ratio of feed).
This occurs regardless it seems, of my output settings in prem pro. I have tried changing the pixel aspect to square pixels, I have tried changing the resolution- none of which seems to make any difference at all.

Oddly when testing the DVD on my computer I have the same problems (dont computer monitors have different shaped pixels?).

Am I correct to assume that a sequence with PAL widescreen 16-9, pa of 1.4587 should play 16-9 as default on a widescreen TV?

This is almost taking me longer than the f*ing animation did.

Please help

LA.

It looks like you’ve made a mistake between these two steps… an uncompressed AVI wouldn’t work on a DVD, so somewhere inbetween you have to convert the AVI to a DVD-compliant MPEG2 file, and somewhere in those conversion settings you have to define the file to be a 16:9 widescreen video.

Yes thanks, I should have noted in my post that after the avi I created an mpeg to go on the dvd.

I do think you may well be correct regarding the mpeg conversion. Thanks.

after testing I have found that …its not the mpeg conversion, the problem lies in the avi, or to be more precise my settings in premiere pro…

still…help!
