Hey guys, i´m trying to make a wall with golden letter written on it, so i though i could make a black and white version and stick that texture on the specular weight slider, so only the letter would shine with the light but it doesn´t matter what i do, if i make the letters white and the background black or otherwise, the whole wall shines as it were made of metal.
I tryed using a checker and it worked fine, there were squares that shined and others that didn´t.
So the question is, how do i make the letter shine?
EDIT: By the way, i´m using maya 2018, just to narrow down the possibilities.

Nevermind. Apparently the effect i wanted to create was the metalness slider (new thing in 2018?) and it wouldn´t work unless i click "alpha is luminance in the color balance tab of the texture.
So anyone with the same problem, here it is the answer!!!
