The story behind this picture is from
desert storm in 91.
A group of abrams tanks mounted with mine ploughs attacks a trench with iraqi soldiers. the soldiers are buried alive by the abrams mine ploughs.
I tried conveying the feeling of these soldiers as they are buried alive, by this huge monster as it rolls over the trench, as well as how the crewmen feels about this act.
I originally envisioned the loader sitting in his hatch, firing the M240 machine gun at the soldiers in the trenches, symbolizing the gung-ho
american, with the TC sitting in his hatch, trying to get a view of the carnage he’s ordered.
I wanted a slight sense of compassion to be read in his face.
I might still add the loader in.
I think having him standing on the turret roof, firing his sidearm, could amplify his gung-ho attitude.
This is the basic concept scetch.
i had a game model M1 abrams lying around, and decided to use it for my concepting. I painted faces onto
the different bipeds, to give a sense of the basic feelings, and some basic lighting to test the best light conditions. I also did a dust overlay in photoshop.
I got a lot to learn about composition and lighting, and hope that this contest will strengthen these skills.
