Spectacular 3D Entry: Justin Porter
Hey All,
glad to be a part of this. I hope to actually finish my entry this time around . I wanted to go with a theme of overcoming spectacular odds. I should have a rough concept painting up here soon (you’ll have to excuse my painting skills, I’m kind of new to that whole area). Good luck to all, and I’ll post more soon. Cheers,
Justin
Here is my first rough concept paint. The painting is not by any means finished, but I wanted to get it up here and see if I could get some feedback sooner rather than later.
I really wanted to explore the idea of someone standing up to fantastic odds. So, voila, little girl vs. giant invading robot. What can I say, I’m a sucker for cheesy sci-fi.
I’m totally open to any comments people have. How can I improve the concept or execution? I’d rather get the hardcore criticism now while the project is flexible, so please don’t pull any punches.
Thanks again for any comments and good luck to everyone.
Cheers,
Justin
hey me likey!! i totally dig the scene and color sceme… but i thnk if the characters had a differnet pose then it wud look even better… i like where ur goin… so keep up the good works ![]()
great! like the moody atmosphere and the creepy buildings! will be watching how this comes along!
cheers!
I like it a lot!
I want to see how are you going to make those amazing clouds man!
I really like the way they reinforce the scene.
Good Luck!
Hey Justin, The concept looks very good right now, I think I would make the image a little taller than it is. Good luck with this.
Dude that’s one helluva composition right there, the camera is great! However I do find myself staring at the sky more than I need to. I think you might need an even more angled shot, such that your two characters take up more of the comp. Nice characters too.
I’m watching!
:buttrock:
Very chessy Sci-fi but I love it! All Hale Chessy SCi-Fi. The sense of scale is great, and the sky is almost like Independants day, a flaming cloud engulfing any thing in it’s path.
Maybe add some more peripheral robots to add to the peril and fear of almost certain death, if the girl beats this one it’s not over.
Thanks to all of you for the input:
Overcontrast: Any ideas on how I could make the poses better? I’d love to hear them. My girlfriend says they look off balance, I totally see that, but I think I’m going to fix that in the 3D stage rather than trying to repaint the whole character (I’m just trying to get the idea out and figure out colors and shapes and such in this stage). Thanks again.
Yunisirees: Thanks
Hooch: The clouds are actually based on the tutorial by Stahlberg: http://www.androidblues.com/cloudtut.html . But his look way better than mine. I really wanted to give the composition a feeling of depth, and make it feel as if the scene is towering over the viewer.
Mmoir: Yeah, I like really tall narrow images too, we’ll see how the final arrangement turns out, but I very well may make it taller and thinner in order to accentuate the feeling I’m going for.
Sergio Santos: Thanks much
Keetmun: I’ll try making the characters fill the comp a little more when I get into 3D. Good suggestion, thanks.
Denverbz: Thanks, good luck to you too.
Limey D: Yeah, that’s exactly what I was thinking. I wanted to add more robots walking up in the background through the haze, and maybe a mothership looming behind the buildings. I’ll probably try and get most of that into the concept stage. Thanks for the input.
Beelow: Thanks
Great input guys, keep it coming. Cheers.
Justin
I really like the idea, but the image is going to be hard to pull off in the current persepective… Maybe she should be much larger in the scene, so up close and personal, and have this huge huling robot fill most of the rest of the frame, matter of a fact I wouldn’t even show much of the robot, maybe the fist, a foot something like that… Lot of pontential in this idea.
Thanks for the feedback. I’m going to play with the perspective and angle once I get some basic stuff down in 3D. I think you’re right that the girl could be placed better, I’ll work on that. I can’t wait to get some more done on this. Hope fully tonight I’ll get to do some more painting, I really want to get it into 3D as soon as I can. Cheers
great sketch I can’t wait to see the final 3d -:applause:
i love the sky- and the action.
i see a huge impact crater under the girl showing the resultant force transference and excentuating the resitance the girl is putting up. oh and some dust and debris
Good luck and happy 3Ding.
Dude, that’s a GREAT idea!! I love it, I’ll definitely integrate that into the image. Thanks.
