Spectacular 3D Entry: Jason Calvert
Spectacular images don’t have to be about explosions or tragedy. They can be about beauty and nature. So, my image will be a beautiful reef full of coral, fish and invertibrites. I will be using my reef aquarium as inspiration. The scene will focus on a school of Yellow Tang feed on algee. I have already taken reference photos of my tang and will use it to create my fish model. I plan on using Lightwave, ZBrush and Photoshop to create my final image.
Good luck to everyone!
Here is the base mesh for the Fire Coral. This will be were the Tang ar grazing. I started out with a box, then metaformed it, SmoothShifted a few times and moved points. I will finish the modeling and creating textures in ZBrush.
Here is the finished model of the Astral Snail. I’ve almost finished all the textures for it and now I have to bring it into Lightwave. I’ll place all the textures, position the models and render them in Lightwave.
Here is the progression of the model. I first started with a box. I then metaformed it and smoothed shifted it a few times. I then moved points around to get the basic shape of the snail. I used a reference pic to get a realistic form. I then exported a OBJ file to use in ZBrush. In ZBrush, I subdivied it and started “painting” the displacement map for it. I have 8 SubDivision levels and its around 1.4million polys. The model probally won’t be close to the camera or even in focus but I want my final image to be very realistic.
I jumped to this model first to do instead of the coral so I could learn how to use ZBrush. I wanted to practice before I moved onto a harder mesh. The textures are almost all done. Now just to put them on in Lightwave.
