Spectacular 3D Entry: James Kaufeldt

#401

This sounds good ! I really like the dynamism of your scene ! very “spectacular” ! And the few things you’ve added give this scene more ! Great !

#402

crash scene is coming out very well dude:thumbsup: Looks great:)

#403

I am impressed mate! One of the best concept, the most spectacular on the contest!
Simple and efficient.
Good work:thumbsup:

Started adding secondary suspension details, railings and so on, and damaged things a bit using twist deformers and some manual misalignments on the bridge components.

There’s still a lot left to destroy though, but this is sort of the foundation for further mayhem.

In terms of layout, I have moved things around slightly - most importantly opened up the top-left quadrant a bit to get some interesting negative space. Thus the tail has been moved to the right, and the left wing is entirely removed… lets just assume it fell off pretty early on, and is no longer in view.

After having made the “horizontal flip trick” on the previous layout, it was pretty clear it didn’t work too well, but with the latest edits it does.

I have also started considering contrast and silhouettes a bit more, and I’m basically using a bright-on-dark/dark-on-bright approach in order to increase readability. So far it looks like it’s working.

Still no textures made, and still no real cars made either.

Hmm… well, big thanks to all who have posted since the last time I had a peek.

I’m currently knocked out by a flu, and have been swamped with web-related gigs for the past few days, and I just found out it isn’t over yet… :scream:

I’ll be back later with comments… my apologies

.

#407

It’s nice to see how it all comes together. I hope to see some wires tearing on that bridge

#408

can this flu last till the 5th of Dec. :stuck_out_tongue: hehehehhe just kidding mate and i wish u speedy recovery
by the way nice updates and good luck man

As I already said, your work is great. Anywayt I got a little critic. You have made car in action, so it seems to mean that the action is in the moment. But the way you made your plane seems more the result of the action; Like if cars and plane weren’t in same moment.
You’ll maybe add explosion or particle to create movement on the side of the plane ?? But will it be sufficient ??

#410

I’m sure that he’ll add some type of motion blur and stuff, because I believe that the point of his image, is that it’s taken at the time of the action.

My only critique is that the road should have more of a “wave” from the impact.

#411

Get well and get rid of those webgigs!
Latest updates looks good - the plane just gets heavier and heavier … Kaboom, splash, yoinks and the likes, all coming together now

#412

hmm…u know…it is actually good that i can work as fast as i can…cause i have a feeling u and i would have some problems during the judging…buut im working on another idea…soo it will be allright, and…LOVE THAT PLANE

#413

Impressive James… last scene is very strong… that seem to comes really realistic… nothing to add, nothing to crit (I’m certainly not qualified in this case)… just watching and waiting next update

M’kay, clearing some backlogged entries:

flyingP(ainintheass) - Yes, I will break the windows :scream:

beelow - Next up is nose-blowing and eating lots of aspirin

yunisirees - M’yes… upside-down? Hmm… I think not

Agamemnwn - The engineering perspective is very important too, so I figure the final synergetic effect will be the best of both worlds.

Dave Wortley - Most appreciated, and it would be great if you could crash a plane too

kmest - I’m not even sure there has to be a lot of casualties really… could be a slow sunday morning with very few cars on the road… and the plane is a cargo jet, so maybe there’s only the pilot and co-pilot who have to kick the bucket

dvelasco, icedeyes, superXCM, LAURO_MX, madshooter - Thanks guys

BgDM - Hi ya, Derek. Yeah, waiting to see where I can take this thing myself too… there’s so much time left to do great things

A I R - lol, yeah, I’m just being proactive and guide the crits in a useful direction

gpepper - Sounds good, there’s a lot more to add still though :scream:

funkyboss - oh, very glad to hear that

nemirc - Messed wires coming up soonish

Rotab3D - Well, I’m usually stuck with these colds for weeks on end, so you never know…

authentic - That is actually my biggest concern right now. The primary problem is that it’s very difficult to make motionblur look “right” when it’s on something that is heading straight towards the camera. There will be lots of pyro effects and friction sparks, but I am not myself even sure that it will suffice. I have played around a bit with some zoom and shake kind of effects in 2D, as a post process, and maybe some tricks like that could work as well… but we’ll see what I might come up with eventually.

spirogyro - The wave effect is coming up soon. Right now I’ve mainly blocked out the rough misalignments on low-poly road elements - I’ll have to subdivide them a lot and then make some waves.

Gunilla - I would, but saying ‘no’ is not my strong point…

nebezial - Yes, seems our directions are diverging more now, so everything should be cool

Lemog - Surely qualified enough  We’ll see about the next update…

With a bit of luck I’ll have another update in about… er…14 hours from now… yeah… see you later then runs off to continue my drug abuse

hum…what can i say ? …Great job  ! really interesting…very good modeling and ambience, just two little critics for me, i agree with authentic about the motion blur, the plane look too immovable, i know that manage a good motion blur is very difficult (i’ve got the same problem on my post)…But i think that it needs it to revitalize the situation and make it more dynamic, and to be logical with your cars and your effects.

And for the second critic, it’s just a suggestion, what about bending a little more the cables at the foreground ?

Anyway it’s very good, one of my favorite thread !

#416

I haven’t noticed your thread till now , I just found it and I can say its some fantaStic work man , I wish you good luck and hard work of course , very nice really see ya and bcareful

#417

I can almost hear the metalshrieks from the plane when its slide against the bridge… spectacular feeling
looking forward to see the rest of the chaos emerge in the image. :bounce:

#418

Hehe, isn’t it unlogical that the tower (lower image) shall bent to the left?
Sorry for posting such things so late but I’ve been very busy…
… and astonished when I saw your last milestone. Wow, this is gona be a finalist pic for usre!
One question: when / how did the plane loose it’s right wings (the one on the left from the cams view)? (just curious)

#419

Yup i can officially admit that u are kicking butts …like the way renders goes and it shoes that the motion blur / camera shake/ sparky - pyro effects/ wave effects u are experimenting will pay up…

:bounce:
YOINKS …wabbit is going NUTS big time with this…heheheh.

Have u thought to zoom in a bit more or is it too early for that?

#420

woah, the last update is awsome, I love the bridge deformation.

Keep up the good work
