Spectacular 3D Entry: James Kaufeldt

#381

Oh yeah - that update convinced me that you will actually pull this off :scream:
Motion and energy much stronger now… only remains balls and fluffy rabbits, YOINKS indeed!

#382

Looks better and better each update. :bounce:

Have you plan to add fx as explosion, smoke, etc… ?!
I’m a bit curious to see how you will set them without mask some important details as the wings or the bridge tower.

#383

Maybe is very important, maybe not.

The car nearest to the airbus are with the wheels to up.
If the airbus is crashing right , WHY the car are in that position?

Maybe the car should be flying, don´t turned up.

Details , details, details…

Cheers.

Tjena James  Getting better and better. just a thought about the plane’s position so you can hate me as much as you want    . I am concerned about the placement of the plane on the bridge.

You say in your compo that the bridge tower will be partially desroyed. i would think that this would happen because of one of the wings hits the tower on the plane’s way down to the bridge or because of the impact the towers cables snap and the uneven distribution of force from the cables brings down the tower. right?

If so in the first incident the plane would probably tilt on the left or right as you watch from the camera and would hit the bridge tilted on the left or right or in the second incident the plane’s position will move because of the bridge collapsing in some extend.

What i am trying to say is that we see the plane destroyed but still looks straight ahead except for the tail part that is tilted to the left.

This is definetly the most spectacular one i’ve seen so far, I’m far too busy at the moment to work on mine but i also had a plane crash theme, maybe i’ll develope it again if i get some free time next month. Your work is very inspiring.

I seem to remember a central reservation on the golden gate bridge, anyway hope these pictures help. Took them last year when i was in San Fran.

I love how this one is coming together. The crash looks great. Curious how you with do the dust and debri? Going to use particle effects?

#387

Actually that sounds logical.

Claudio - Some parts close to the cam is a good idea, if it looks cool… I’m not sure, but I’ll make some tests. I’m afraid the engineering society above ( :stuck_out_tongue: ) would have objections to it though, as it doesn’t really make sense from a strictly realistic point of view

Gunilla - I’ll see what can be done about the about the balls… o_O

Goul - Indeed, the smoke and so on will cover a good portion of the background objects… and this is one of the reasons I haven’t rushed into making very detailed models of them yet. There’s no point spending time on modeling things that end up invisible in the final image.

romelalgo - Good point! But to be honest, I just put that car upside-down simply because it might end up looking cool and add to the general impression of chaos, and I haven’t put any thought into how it might have managed to get itself in that position  I’ll see what else I can come up with.

Agamemnwn - Good point too! I could perhaps consider moving the tail over to the right side instead, to make it fit better with the general directional vector of the wreck as such. But the angle at which the main fuselage and above all the cockpit is heading towards the camera will absolutely not be changed - it’s the most central feature of the whole concept.

Dave Wortley - Oh thanks, great photos! They go straight into the reference folder… In fact I believe that the panoramic one might very well be a good foundation for the background matte even, if you don’t mind me using it. Thanks a lot for posting those

HammaJamma - Dust/debris/smoke/fire will be a combination of volumetric particle effects (PyroCluster) and geometry (explosion deformers etcetera).

nemirc - Yes, it does!

General notes: Although I might end up not adjusting to a lot of the very technical comments, I do appreciate them and I sort of pick up on the things that I can see might add to the concept as such. So please don’t take it the wrong way if I conveniently disregard some real-world technicalities.

In the end however, I must ultimately focus on stuff that adds to the expressivity of the final image. This means that physical accuracy is a secondary objective, and when forced to make a choice between “looks” and “correctness”, I will always pick “looks”.

So for instance, the breaking of the secondary suspension wires and the resulting misalignment of the road sections, is both correct AND cool looking, so there’s no doubt I’ll do that… While on the other hand the fact that it might be unlikely for the wreck to end up in that exact position, well, then I just have to play the artistic license card

.

#389

Oh, so you will be breaking the glass then

#390

Cool as hell, I am interested in what you will do next! holla!

#391

hi james
yes about the looks and physical apperance i too choose looks! its turning out nicely! updates are yet to be waited for! hmmm just an after thought try placing the plane upside down ;)!
cheers man!

You are absolutely right james and you should keep to what you are doing. for me to give this kind of suggestions is simply because i have the mind of an engineer and sometimes forget, or put second that artistic license  Hope i help anyway with what i am saying and that doesn’t mean that you have to follow them to the letter so you shouldnt explain yourself

Kör som fan !!! det kommer att bli så kul

#393

Well as long as i see a return on my photographic skillz

nah you’re welcome mate, i’m routing for you to be in the prizes with this, not seen anything else i like tbh. and hey maybe i’ll do mine and we can see who’s plane crash does better!

thumbs up for the composition tho, would love to see this animated :stuck_out_tongue: there’s a challenge!

Dave

#394

this is forming realy good james, and a cool actio in the image, although many peoples are Dying there, sad story behind all…
BTW,its going realy good, keep hard working

#395

I like the idea a lot! Should look cool with smoke/sparks/fire, etc. Nice picture of the bridge, by the way!

#396

just wanted to drop by and say that i love the new tcomposition… the image seems more complete now… and it has a very nice perspective:applause:

#397

Nice update, and composition, i like it, nothing else to say… just keep it going James!! :bounce:

You make really cool work!

#398

James, glad to see your still at it and doing great stuff.

Keep it up man. Really looking forward to seeing this one finished.

My god! That is being well and better! I can wait to see that finished!
Keep it up man! cya:thumbsup:
