I was on a redeye from LA to New York and some turbulence woke me from a restless sleep. I looked out my 21A, exit row, window seat to see we were skirting a thunderstorm. In my half-sleep I recall the captain mentioning we were somewhere over the mid-west and the time was around 3 a.m local. The storm was producing a wicked light show so I pulled out my 35mm to snap off some shots. I timed some good lightning strikes between the clouds, but the best shot was of a strike on the end of the wing. I thought it was fantastic luck and couldn’t wait to develop the film. - I know, wake up, join the 20th century and buy a digital camera, right? I feel that celluloid captures the best images. When the digital revolution exceeds the quality of film, then I’ll switch.- Anyway, as I was hanging the still-wet photos in my darkroom, the streaks of lightning slowly appeared on the paper. The shot of the lightning bold hitting the wing was incredible and I framed it for my collection. It wasn’t until a few days later I noticed the real gem in the image. Actually, a friend had to point it out to me. Since realizing what I, in fact, did capture, I’m not sure what to do with the image. Some people might not believe it to be genuine. I can hardly believe what the camera caught in the distance. I guess it’s a good thing I didn’t use digital, which can be easily manipulated. I have the actual film as proof. (I just have to scan it in, please be patient).

Wow…this is exciting! Being a photographer myself, I know exactly what you mean about having something substantial holding the image…

and I have this odd love of photo chemicals…that and turpentine…love em…LOL…

and now I do digital…ugh!

can’t wait to see your image!

 (and good luck with the challenge!)

Sorry folks,
I gotta back out of this one. Moving into a new house. Baby on the way. A writing project (hopefully) in the works. And a full-time job.

Good luck everyone!
