Petri i think you have realy strong Idea. Please be careful and work hard on it.

It’s coming some interesting paints, but work hard on it. If i can help also i will do my best to give you me feedback.

Keep working like that. Please give some enviroment to your paint. Don’t leave your scene just with one Figure. May be you can’t put some people that don’t take care about that girl and don’t hel pher to scape for that trap.

Or you can put a lot of ice Town around like an eviroment and may be her baby on the floor. Give more live that Picture.

I love really your Idea. You need just a little bit more.

I think the syle looks great so far. My only problem with it is the right leg. I just can’t tell what is going on with it. Is the statue incomplete or is she sitting on the leg? My first impression was that she was sitting on her bent leg but it doesn’t look right as there is no indication of the lower leg and calf - also the knee is too pointed and bullet shaped if this is the case. Maybe the lower leg is bent inward? In that case something is still off with the angles and the knee is still too pointy. Like I said, I just can’t tell what is going on with it and it bothers me. Maybe I’m missing something here.

Xillion: Sure, there can never be too many references. Lighting is not the problem, because, I wouln’t do a straight copy of it anyway.

Zaguri: I agree with you in all ways. And I'm struggling with that problem.

I dont like the idea of putting forms on the background, because I think that it would brake the feeling. I thought of some sort of color variation, but only small variation.

aaron111: Yes, I’m very aware of that, and I’ve been strugging with that from the beginning. It’s actually kind of challenging to do these paintings that will become finished. I truly have to sit down and solve the problem. Other than speed paintings, where I never have to solve them. This is a new expirience to me, and it is sort of fashinating. Altough, I still don’t like looking one painting this long.

I’m thinking of trying a new thing that crossed my mind. What if some of the ice was melted. It might fix the problem that Zaguri mensioned, or cover it at least :slight_smile:
But it’s an idea worth of trying. So tomorrow I have again time to continue this. Thanks all for good and constuctive criticism.
Oh, and I printed this at school, and it looked more green that it does on my screen. Though it doesn’t matter, because it was so small difference. But overall it looked good. So there I could make the conclusion that it looks somewhat the same that it does on MY screen :slight_smile:

By looking at the references I think it’s quite obvious that snow is usually rendered as a smooth and soft white veil taking cold light blue shades. What usually gives a clue that that “veil” is actually snow are other elements in the composition like bushes (Like in Elmore) or footprints and icy mountains.

I think it looks alot better like this. Don’t attract too much attension of the face or those kind of things, they will be formed better when I start detailing. I still think that there should be that squarrel, giving a kiss, or something. A reason why she is transforming from ice to a human.

So it is a ice sculpture and the upper part is becoming human? correct?

I like the shoulder translucency effects. Light is working finely.

You should think of the actual way of the transformation. Does that water and ice turn into that woman? Will the ice around her melt away? Creating small streams of water?

Will the water evaporate to the air leaving hisses of steam and mist?

Im bit confused with the transformation, but just let me know of the actual way :thumbsup:

I like the trees in the background giving lots of depth to this picture and the colors are also nice. Of course its very nice to see another finn around here. Good luck! :applause:

This is not terrible at all. Just a little bit confusing. As its pretty much easier to understand normal ice sculture. If i could see the possible outcome of the lady in the ice and lady of ice. Id propably be able to help you out much better.

Its really upto you… Which one do you think will deliver more spectacular picture?

Hi Petri.J. Your thumbnails of this thing’s amazing! How light’s reflected on the figure looks so real. But I guess you havent quite worked out the story of what’s really happening in the scene coz you havent added in any other elements yet that might give us insyt to the picture. Is she some kind of Ice-God who was cursed by, I dunno some other God, and now the people need her help so they found a way to un-freeze her or something… Nyway, keep it up and goodluck to yah :thumbsup:

Don’t get me wrong, I like to know what’s wrong with it, but I’m not after the largest number of comments/views. And I really appreciate constructive criticism, thanks guys for your time and effort.
I woudn’t argue if someone would handle me a brand new computer, but I would suspect some sort of an error in the judging, or something. :slight_smile:
The deal is that I usually do just speed paintings, and with them you really are missing half of it all. In speedpaintings you don’t have to solve any kind of problems, just put some cool texture over it, and call it a speedie. It’s good that there is a deadline, so I know that I have to finish this some day, and that makes me to grab the pen and start drawing.

ahbeejieh: A story? No there’s no story, but I thought of making a painting that tells a story. Obviously it doesn’t work because I haven’t figure it out yet. :slight_smile:

Falcor_: Well I’m in a kind of a dead end here. I have no idea of wich to choose. I guess the ice sculpture was more beautiful, good colors and good shading/lighting. But the other one has some sort of an idea. It would be good if I just could think of something that would make that first one more spectacular, or the second one look better and less confusing.
I think I’m going to take a couple days brake from this, and get back to it someday.

Hey man, keep it up. It was looking cool :wink: Though my idea was a little different than how you did represent it (and eventually became something different and interesting) I think you have plenty of time to refine the idea and experiment. Just don’t give up!!!

As an advice, just refine the story and the other elements will come into your mind.

Yeah, but I just don’t like the idea of doing similar idea that has been done on this contest, like from the beginning (and I don’t think that I could do it better). But I’ll continue this some, and then look if I get any better ideas. If not, then I’ll finish the one that I think is the best.
