By looking at the references I think it’s quite obvious that snow is usually rendered as a smooth and soft white veil taking cold light blue shades. What usually gives a clue that that “veil” is actually snow are other elements in the composition like bushes (Like in Elmore) or footprints and icy mountains.

It’s an ice sculpture that want’s to be a real girl. I proudly present to you, Miss Pinocchio! 
I think it looks alot better like this. Don’t attract too much attension of the face or those kind of things, they will be formed better when I start detailing. I still think that there should be that squarrel, giving a kiss, or something. A reason why she is transforming from ice to a human.
So it is a ice sculpture and the upper part is becoming human? correct?
I like the shoulder translucency effects. Light is working finely.
You should think of the actual way of the transformation. Does that water and ice turn into that woman? Will the ice around her melt away? Creating small streams of water?
Will the water evaporate to the air leaving hisses of steam and mist?
Im bit confused with the transformation, but just let me know of the actual way 
I like the trees in the background giving lots of depth to this picture and the colors are also nice. Of course its very nice to see another finn around here. Good luck! :applause:

This is not terrible at all. Just a little bit confusing. As its pretty much easier to understand normal ice sculture. If i could see the possible outcome of the lady in the ice and lady of ice. Id propably be able to help you out much better.

But I guess you havent quite worked out the story of what’s really happening in the scene coz you havent added in any other elements yet that might give us insyt to the picture. I’m really not after those prizes, or comments (like I would even have a change). Don’t get me wrong, I like to know what’s wrong with it, but I’m not after the largest number of comments/views. And I really appreciate constructive criticism, thanks guys for your time and effort.
I woudn’t argue if someone would handle me a brand new computer, but I would suspect some sort of an error in the judging, or something.
The deal is that I usually do just speed paintings, and with them you really are missing half of it all. In speedpaintings you don’t have to solve any kind of problems, just put some cool texture over it, and call it a speedie. It’s good that there is a deadline, so I know that I have to finish this some day, and that makes me to grab the pen and start drawing.
ahbeejieh: A story? No there’s no story, but I thought of making a painting that tells a story. Obviously it doesn’t work because I haven’t figure it out yet.
Falcor_: Well I’m in a kind of a dead end here. I have no idea of wich to choose. I guess the ice sculpture was more beautiful, good colors and good shading/lighting. But the other one has some sort of an idea. It would be good if I just could think of something that would make that first one more spectacular, or the second one look better and less confusing.
I think I’m going to take a couple days brake from this, and get back to it someday.

Though my idea was a little different than how you did represent it (and eventually became something different and interesting) I think you have plenty of time to refine the idea and experiment. Just don’t give up!!!
As an advice, just refine the story and the other elements will come into your mind.

Yeah, but I just don’t like the idea of doing similar idea that has been done on this contest, like from the beginning (and I don’t think that I could do it better). But I’ll continue this some, and then look if I get any better ideas. If not, then I’ll finish the one that I think is the best.
