My goodness you have been busy! You have so many ideas and they all seem great to me. I like the deep sea creatures idea the best because of their spectacular nature and their dynamic feel. I also like Gonzalo’s ideas too of adding a threatened submarine into the image.
Spectacular 2D Entry: Jens Rasmussen
@Korline - Thanks, I’m thinking that this is the most “spectacular” one as well. It will need a lot of work and character studies as my figure skills will really be put to the test with the firing squad pretty close up. There also needs to be a lot more done to the environment, but hey it’s not called the Challenge for nothing
@Lync - Thanks - yeah the number of concepts is also a reflection of how I’ve struggled with coming up with something that would fall properly into the spectacular theme.
I think i’m going with concept 5 rather than the deep-sea one. I tried out a couple of sketches with a submarine and the big deep-sea fish, but it didn’t really “click” - and I’ve seen quite a few deep sea themed sketches around now - not that it should deter anyone from amking another - but i struggled to make the deepsea scen more dynamic, but who knows - I may return to it if the other one falls apart
Thanks for the comments and good luck to you both!
Oh, I find this latest concept hilarious, I think you ought to have a dinosaur behind the bear and a jumbo jet behind the dinosaur and a meteor shower behind the jumbo jet and intergalactic despair behind the meteor shower…now that would be Spectacular!!!
Good luck!
Cheers,
~Rebeccak
@Rebeccak - Rotfl - yup - there might be a slight scaling issue - but that would indeed be spectacular!
Good luck to you too!
Progressing with Concept 5 here.
Just examining some different stances for the firing squad. Considering that one of the soldiers should be lowering his rifles because he thought he heard something
Well this HAS to be my last idea - have to start moving on. But here is a rough sketch of the idea. A Human cannonball is flying high above the fairground when an eagle mistakes him for a quick snack. I haven’t sketched in the background yet, but it will be high above the ground where you can see a cloud or two and the whole fairground below.
Tried putting a few colours on. Basically everything needs a redraw and the ground needs a lot more detail. This was primarily to see if the ground level scale will work in terms of composition.
I’m contemplating letting the eagle actually have gotten hold of the human cannonball instead. This could possible let the guys sprawl a bit more in mid-air and add some dynamics to the picture? Any comments on that?
ok here comes some c&c… I think that all the ground staff (circus, etc) looks very good, it’s got the correct scale… The clouds are ok, but they are a bit like a line that crosses the pic horizontally…mmm…oh, and I don’t know if I could hold my arm up if I were a human cannonball…not to mention the finger… The eagle looks pretty good too, with all the feathers and all…
anyway, good luck with it! keep it up ![]()
@elmasfeo: Thanks. Yup the cannonball dude definetly needs a complete redraw. I think i’ll try and do a few sketchyes only of the eagle and the guy in various stages of entanglement
I asl oplan to add more houses etc on the ground. Effectively, the entire ground section should depict a small villag once it is complete.
The clouds are a very quick ugly version with rendered clouds and some deletion - they need a rework too.
Thanks for comments - good luck with your own work!
Exploring different postures and rates of entaglement for the human cannonball and the eagle. These are just quick pencil sketches scanned in.
Hey Ducklator - thanks. Well its ain’t over yet - I might try and get them both worked up to a certain standard and then decide which one to complete
My main problem with the deepsea idea was that it lacked some dynamics, and as far as I get it, the theme “Spectacular” leans quite a lot towards an action scene or a very dynamic picture.
But hey - I could be totally and utterly wrong here :bounce:
I thnk I will go for option 2 or 3 from the sketches. Option 1 seems too unbalanced somehow.
option 2 is the most balanced/centered one IMO whereas 3 is a bit messy but more dynamic.
If anyone has a suggestion on this - drop a comment
as you say, 2 or 3… I like nr 2 better, but someone could think that the guy is flying because the eagle picked him up, so… I think I would choose number 3, with the guy facing the eagle…
I like no 2 better as well in terms of balace to the pic. Since everything else is far down below, they don’t contribute much - but then again 3 is more dynamic…hmmmm
