This image (if it opens properly) is a small thumb sketch. It portrays a mage on a small precarious outcropping of rock. it has been demanded of him by his tribe that he make rain, lest the tribe suffer drought and famine. It has been demanded several times, actually, each time more insistantly than before. There are those who begin questioning his abilities, as well as his place in the tribe. Threats are made, although never in his presence. Word, however, has reached him that something needs to be done and done soon, or there will be dire consequences. He decides the time has come to show why he is a man with whom none should trifle, and he climbs his lonely rock to conjure something worthy of respect, something Spectacular…

A few gesture sketches for the Shaman figure in the foreground. I think I like how the one on the right is working. I may use that as a starting point.

Some work on the outcrop of rock on which he will stand. I like the idea of a winding stairway, that will have to be investigated further. Any suggestions?

This is the final drawing for my lonely outcrop of rock. I have lots of cool color ideas in mind, can’t wait to start them.

nice little pen thing you have there, anyway good luck

I agree. Also, what kind of extreme weather can we expect in the image? Curious to see how you fill up that background. Looks good so far!

Still in the conceptual stage… I thought a silhouette for the foreground would be a bit more dramatic and would focus more attention on the storm. I think, however, I need to make the stormclouds more subdued and dark, lots of blues and grays to make the mage’s staff light pop more. I’ll keep trying.

Here is the final sketch for the foreground. Yes, I said that before, but I think this will work better as silhouette, and it gives it more of an interesting shape. I also wanted to focus less attention on the shaman figure. It’s not really important who he is, it’s what he can do that sets him apart, so I want to put the emphasis on that.

A change in the clouds. I think the darks will make the foreground pop.
