Spectacular 2D Entry: Carlos Félix
While brainstorming for 3d I had an idea that I’m doing in 2d. Plus, I ditched my Volito for an Intuos yesterday, so how could I not enter!
The basic idea is a bit related to the 3d thing, it’s about dancing, water and fire. But in a whole different context.
The Dance of Water and Fire Concept
In the beginning there was the Water. And God created Life in the Water, it flourished in a chaotic stew, but lacked a purpose. So God made a creature to rule over the Water, most powerful, great and beautiful than any other. But the creature became proud and wanted to follow a purpose of its own design, so God brought the Fire unto the World to slay the creature. The creature suffered terrible torment and its corpse was shredded into many pieces, left to dry in the heat of the fire. These pieces became the Earth. They formed continents, mountains and islands, so God called the Fire back and made it into a ball. Then it sent the ball of Fire to travel through the sky every day. It must disappear into the water and rise again the following morning to make the journey again.
Every year, when the Ball of Fire finishes its longest journey, Mankind remembers the time when Fire and Water clashed to form the Earth. A young priestess does the Dance of Water and Fire in front of the entire village, much to the entertainment of the villagers and their Chief, to appeal to God that both Sea and Earth provide food and good weather to the village. This dance is a show to remember, a thing
Spectacular!
Man! Bela história…You always had this thing to come up with great deep content stories. It won’t be easy to translate the story into the dance, that is, if you want to make the story visual. Perhaps you could show some kind of hieroglyphics. Well, too early to tell anyway.
Cool image, and I can see you’re already doodling head on with your new tablet. Glad you decided to participate in 2D!

Thanx, Andi e Sónia! The story was just an excuse to do a dance with fire and water! It’s very loosely based in ancient Mesopotamian and Biblical mythology, when God slays a monster called Leviathan (female, Lord of the Water, origin of Life). There was a male counterpart for Leviathan, Behemoth, but as I said, this is a very loose adaptation.
I wanted to portray a festive event in a small Mediterranean-ish type tribe.
DrFx,
Great story. I’m looking forward to seeing how your concept develops. Best of luck!![]()

i love the idea. is great… i was wondering, maybe you can put some kind of spots on the skin of the girl. in the shoulders or something, looks great…you can take some inspiration from fishes or underwater animals to make the dress of the girl to. but is just my opinion. loos cool already.
see you later. you doing a great job…!!
Tony, thanks!
Jesus, the priestess girl will definetly be tanned, maybe have some tatoos also. I will almost definetly put some ornamentation in the dress or more jewellery, it’s too simple right now. I’m thinking it could be geometrical motifs or some simple figurative art (like a “primitive” tribe should have had).
Hey Carlos, I like the idea of dancing and fire and water, and your character concept looks pretty cool this far. I like the staffs, though I think maybe you should go a b it more spectacular on the outfit, especially if she will be doing any dancing in the final thing, more long veils, perhaps to signify the water, maybe put some kind of sun-styled headress on her, or have motifs on the clothing. Have you ever looked at the character concepts that Hoon has done? I find them inspirational, so full of rich detail that speaks volumes about the characters: Epiphany or Omai, I could just stare at them for ages. But I love the story behind it… really could be something special, can’t wait to see the character in context.
This is the one that should go in here! A quick doodle about the pose of the character. She should be dancing with water at knee-level, with the tribe watching. It’s a crappy sketch, I know, but feel free to comment and laugh at my inability to draw!
I was thinking she wouldn’t move all that well with water up to her knees. Why don’t you lower it to her ankles? A dancer with full legs looks more graceful. Plus she could splash some water around for fx and the reflections would look great. (Eu agora tou numa d’água!.. )
hey dude, water and fire very cool, need to see more to say something, but the concept very cool,
good luck :applause:
