Spectacular 2D Entry: Adam L. Richards
Oo, great concept: those architectural doodles look really delicious. And the idea of having the big picture, but with the story = nice.
But why does everyone - myself included - go for zeppelins? Any chance of you exchanging them for, say, something uncool? Like cars made from fridges and oil barrels?
hi Adam,
aahhhh…environment sketches. I´m with you dude.
Great vehicle sketches, too. The vertical composition looks much better.
Currently the image looks a wee bit static > maybe because of buildings. that´s just the first impression.

Kargokultti - I think zeplins are kind of popular now because everything else seems to have been done to death. Planes realy arnt that intersting anymore, save the kind of fantasy planes from Crimson Skies. Spaceships have been done to death, especialy here during the grand space opera challenge. Not to say those things cant be done, but it takes some time to come up with something fresh and new. I used zeps here because i wanted the scene to be peacefull, so a plane flying between buildings at 200 MPH wasnt gona do it. And im not a fan of giant sci fi hovercraft.
I designed my zep after a whale. big, gracefull, peacefull. Actualy when i go back and look at the design i think it looks too MUCH like a whale. especialy with the accidental placement of the hole in the side that gives it an eye. LOL.
Although a car made out of a fridge and oil barrels has possibilities… Mabie my 3D submission? lol.
Fahrija - Thanks! yea the image is a bit static right now. I hope i will stamp that out with the next concept update. The entire world is going to be heavly styled in Art Nouveau so i’m hoping the buildings will bring some life to the scene without having to change the composition too drasticly.
I wouldnt worry about everyone having explosions and all that. I was hoping someone would make just an amazing enviroment that fits into this challenge. Good luck on working this one out (and I love those blimps).
in an attempt to liven up the scene a little and keep it from being too static, i put another ship in the forground with a couple people just noticing the person jumping from the ledge. One is pointing at him, so this may help the viewer notice the figure faster, but im afraid now only the top half of the piece is of any interest. although the image kind of reads: the man pointing, follow to the man jumping, follow to the blimp (his target) follow to the floor (if he misses)…
Color study for my piece, I tried puting the forground blimp in sunlight, but it was way too distracting. They may end up geting a little light, but i kept em in the dark for now.
hehe, I thought the guy was jumping out of one of the buildings on the other side…guess the point works (or i was just blind for that moment). Waiting for more.
Hello Adam,
The blimp could be going up in flames, that’d be spectacular!
Cheers,
Bobby
Beautiful sketches!
The composition does look better now but I’m afraid I wouldn´t have noticed the little jumper if I wasn’t reading the story.
hi there! very nice designs! I just love them, and that peacefull environment seems to be grand… I’ll keep in touch here, to see some great painting
good luck!
Boy, I love those vehicle concept sketches! :applause: Hope you strike on something soon…Best of luck to you!![]()
Very good vehicle design . And the light in are working very well.
But i agree with Sonia. Is difficult to see the jumper.
The feeling I get from this is very powerfull… I don’t know why!! Good work!:bounce:
