Space ape
I’m thinking the title of this one could be: “LEAVING THE PLANET OF THE APES”
Very nice work!
Nice space suit ! Too bad ape head has too defined hairs (beard and almost no hairs on other places) and eyes lost reflections, should have brought more life to the eyes.
Nice work. What is disturbing somehow is the 2 “Airthingis” in the front.
For me those dont fit into the image. Everything is very detailed, but the “thingis” arent!
Could be the material used on it?
@Dodgeas3d, maybe the ape has no reflections in his eyes because of what happend to him?
I think theres no reflection cause it shows the sadness of the situation…
Just to say that those are the things I liked about the image - the fact the ape has a trimmed beard and a shaved head makes me think he is sentient, and not being able to see his eyes means I can’t tell what he is thinking.
I’m not arguing with you, but just saying what you see as ‘mistakes’, I see as deliberate choices adding to the mystery of the picture.
It’s the same as the engraving on the plate - no one currently commissions a space suit and wastes money by engraving the chest plate - so what exactly are we looking at?
It’s an image which poses more questions than it answers - my favourite kind!
I’ve been following your work for a few years now Maarten and I’m a huge fan of your sculpting style, and the sheer quality AND quantity of sculpts you output is very inspirational. And this is another great piece.
I think it’s time you got some sort of CGS achievement award here for this.
Faultless work.
Its really in my opinion, an enigma of a scene, in other words more human than human when considering their
(all animals) unheralded sacrifice during the cold war era space race for the eventual advancement of “Humankind”…?
And yeah I second the call for an award, too my mind a tad overdue.
PS:
Congrats!, well deserved recognition
I totally agree with CGIPadawan - it almost lends itself well to ‘Leaving Planet of the Apes’.
Great work, looks super realistic
