sorry if this isn't totally AM related.

Have tried out free version of ParticleIllusion SE given away on Augusts Digit magazine. I know AM has sprites, particles and such but another way of doing some stuff wouldn’t hurt.

If anyone wishes to potshot me I’m OK about that. I checked on the general CGTalk discussions thread first and found out that ParticleIllusion was built into Combustion.

I found the Wondertouch webiste where you can download Mac and PC 30 day trial versions if you can’t get Digit magazine.

Hope that’s useful to someone. Once again, I hope this doesn’t upset any AM topic only rules?

Since there are so many cool free Illusion particles floating around. It would be worthwhile to try recreating them as A:M spriticles.
What would be even cooler would be a way to convert the illusion file to A:M .mat file:eek: Talk about a time saver!

Heck if some one could write that, they would have a CD full of sprite materials to sell for A:M!!! :lightbulb

Hi Will,
nice idea! But I know I don’t have those sorts of skills myself. Don’t you think however it isn’t always necessary to use particles in a 3D environment? I mean if you have AfterEffects, you could export a video layer AND work faster.
I found Particle Illusion incredibly fast to render and setup.

How’s the comic-book plans by the way? I’ve been teaching myself Flash and Actionscript(veeeery slowly) to try an interactive storybook idea.

I agree with you–I was just trying to think of a way to make it A:M related

:stuck_out_tongue:

hint taken Will… but Wegg and Balistic are pretty cool dudes. Ah well, backs to me little pond!

I wasn’t hinting!–I was teasing! I do think that it can be used in A:M. I don’t think that it’s off-topic at all.

OK, you got me there.

Now hows about an answer to my Q? You planned long ago in AMList Land to turn your “Tar” illustrations (beautiful work by the way) into an AM produced 3D storybook.

Hows plans? You any further along the route or on other work to pay the bills? (No need to slip out confidential stuff)

“TAR of Zandoria” is on the back burner until later in the fall…I’ve rewritten a lot of it in a script format, because I’m thinking of doing it as animation.

I’m knee-deep in some visual effects for a low-budget Hollywood movie called “Miss Cast Away”. That is what the Jurassic Pork and Noah’s Ark models on my website are for. I’m using A:M for those shots and also for a few others for the film, including a “close encounters” type UFO and a talking dodo puppet!
It is one of those wacky parody movies, sure to be a cult hit:beer:

Once all of the post production is finished, I will be back to some of my own projects, like finishing the Balrog and “TAR”.

Wish you all the best Will. Will you be posting updates here as well as your website?

Oh yeah, I love cult movies too. Hope that works out for you, and thanks for your time. Realise I’ve gotten a lot out of you “in public”

Actualy I played with illusion back when it was an impulse product, and derived alot of the info for spriticles based off examining some of illusions samples. You can do prety much any thing illusion can do inside A:M with spriticles, and a simple web search for illusion particle images provided me with some realy decent reference sites that I derived how some of the particls should be shaped for some for certain effects. The key advantage to illusion is how fast you can lay down colision objects and such; however in A:M you can integrate the spriticles into a scene alot more effectivly as they can all interact with one another in 3d.

Yeah, I’ve been seriously impressed with the deflectors and how easy to apply they are in Illusion.

however in A:M you can integrate the spriticles into a scene alot more effectivly as they can all interact with one another in 3d.

Haven’t played much with spriticles in AM as I took version 9.5 off my computers.
I only put the “illusion” notice out as there may sometimes (especially layering out footage to AE) where it’s faster to render out in a more specialist package. However, it would be faster to recreate some effects in a true 3D+particles package to get the “feel” of depth - as in when an object or character is moving away from the camera. Or as Bill mentions when you need heavy interaction between object and particles. An example here could be rendering out a scene with a diver floating upwards amid the bubbles from his or her breathing apparatus.

Ah well, backs to me little pond!
