[SOLVED] Animating using twist Deformer

#1

Hello everyone,

I’m having a small issue to figure how can this twist work with two objects being apart. It creates this tiny little bulge or space which I want to avoid and keep it closer. It’s not visible from the front view but not when I animate. I can think of other ways like using spline to animate or if there is something like ribbon setup in Maya ? Any thoughts or other ideas ?

thank you! I ll try it but from the looks of its more for rope like structures but for me its just one twist at the centre and the rest is flat. because of the space its creating this void.

I see what youre trying to do. I tried messing with falloff fields and that doesnt seem like it will work either.

I was able to add a smooth deformer after the twist, and that smoothes things out, but may also change the look of your geo.

Heres a method. I tried twisting the source splines and then sweeping the results. Was still getting the bulge/corners, so I simplifid the geo splines and then subdivided the swept result.

Thank you so much for this. This was very helpful to fix most of the issue!

No problem. I finessed it a little more. It looks like you needed the tubes closer together

They need to be a little further away just like in the image. The bulge is still there but I fixed it while animating. It basically twists to the same form again but in a different direction. Just like a rope but with this shape and one twist. That was challenging.

You can get rid of the bulge by scaling an axis of the twist deformer.

I never tried to scale a deformer in one axis. This is another new thing I’ve learnt today. Thank you so very much for this tip, I wouldn’t have progressed as much without your help.
