Softimage 2013 Selection Issues

#1

Hello,

I am totally new to Softimage. I am using Softimage 2013 and I am confused by the selection/remove from selection methods.

When I add vertices to my selection by holding shift, it seems that I have to keep holding shift the whole time I am selecting vertices…if I let go of shift (to rotate the view, or whatever) and then press shift to keep adding more vertices to my selection, they will turn red, as if they are selected, but then when I go to move them, or use any kind of transformation on them, only the vertices that I selected before letting go of the shift key will actually be effected by the transformation.

Is there some other way to effectively add items to a selection…what am I doing wrong.

I know that ALT-Shift select will select loops, shift select will add a range of items between the selected items, CTRL-shift will remove items from a selection.

What am I missing?

Thanks for any help, :argh:

Don’t understood your problem… As far I know, every application add selection with shift Key (modo, blender, maya etc. etc.), so If you are in ray cast mode selection (I caged my keymapping, dafoult is on key U for polygons), you can select a vertices/edge/polygons pressing your left mouse button and drag, all the vertex/edges/polygons under your “passage” is selected, if you want select more press shift and select more.

If you want deselect press CRTL+shift, if you press only CRTL deselect the vertex/polygons/edges just selected and select the not selected.

For select a Loop you must press Alt+Middle mouse button and select two item for select the path (again, if you are in raycast seletion mode your need only to press and drag), for select more loops after the firs press Alt+Shift+_Middle mouse button, for deselect shift+alt+crtl+middle mouse button. For select a polygons/vertex/edges including between two point press ALT+Left mouse button and select the first and select the second point pressing ALT+Left Mouse

Remember softimage using Sticky Keys, study a bit, is a fast workflow solution.

I can confirm Softimage is a great modelling tool, take a look at Vitaly Bulgarov modelling work and tutorials.

if it’s highlighting but not affecting the points correctly this could be a video card driver issue. ATI or NVIDIA?

It’s also worth noting that since 2013 double clicking works to select loops the same way as maya does.

Jesse_Irvin,

Thanks…it might be a graphics card issue, I will check into that. I am working with an ATI Radeon HD 5750…not the best card, and certainly not as well supported as NVIDIA in the CG world…but perhaps there is a fix with some research…I will check.

Thanks Again.

Any chance you have Select / Raycast in Shaded Mode on?

I usually turn on all of the selection options except this one. If you are selecting points in a shaded view, the occluded points will not be selected.

Just a thought.
