So, C4D… where next?
It only has to do with the fact that it’s leveraging the “truedepth” camera (a mini kinect) which is only on the iPhoneX and up models.
ARCore might be just as good as ARKit for many things, but Apple has bought faceshift and ikinema, the two best solutions I knew for face tracking and motion retargeting, so Android phones cannot have access to the same functionalities yet. So there’s no point in an Android app at this stage.
This being said, it’s still very much a useless gimmick in C4D, given the lack of an easy way to retarget anything you do with that app on any other models. At least that was the case with the previous version of the app. It’s fun for 5 min but you can’t do that much about it beyond that.
For instance, last time I checked it was a pain in the neck to record a performance in multiple bits, trim it and string it together into one good take. It was also very tedious to try and apply that performance to another character.
In Iclone, you can record a facial performance with your iphone. Edit it in the timeline, blend between takes, save it, apply it to another character without fuss. But off course you have to pay 200$ for that.
So even if I had a native and free C4D app at hand, I still had to buy the iclone face capture addon to do anything useful.
In the App store compatibility section it says it’s compatible with iPhone 6S and above. I know you’re correct but they’re going to get a lot of people downloading it on older devices which it won’t work on.
Attention to detail?
