snowy mountains sequence

Hi pps,

I’ve spent some free time durin christmas break to pull off another matte painting and get some more compositing and cam projection traning and this is what I came up with:

9 sec sequence vid:

img grab:

Just for quick breakdown, as any input of things I might done wrong or could have done differently will be very helpfull at this stage.

Mesh, camera projected texture and cam movement I’ve done within max. Snow was simple PFsource with objec mblur, as for blizzard and smokes I’ve used PFsource+fumeFX simulations rendered separately. All that composite together afterwards, including 2d plane moving snow clouds in background as well as color correction.

Things that still bother me are reflections on snow (I know i could have done them better), just still thinking of efficient way to do it + Im not sure if 1st plan has enough parallax but thats up to you guys to judge. For a record i drop in mesh grab from max:

Damn, man! Looks great!

Looks great, love the mood.

I’d say yes, the front plane needs more parallax (judging from your mesh shot it looks like it is in 3D but in the video it appears flat).

The snowy “splash” in the rear, is it supposed to be animated? It looks like the crash of an avalanche but frozen.

And the only thing I would add is more particle emitted from where the rocks stick out of the snow further off from the 1st plan. Like it is flying off the surface of the rocks, if you know what I mean, from left to right. I would even try to have some of that happening up close on the rocks. If we can see a bit of snow moving off from the rocks in the 1st plan, it will work really well because it will give a better sense of scale. It’s not easy to do it well but it would be a good touch IMO. Of course, it’s only something I notice because I keep playing it again and again:p
