Snapping Challenge...

I try to 2D snap in a ‘right’ window. It does snap, but only 3D. If I press shift, then the ‘depth’ snap moves back, but all the locking from the previous snap in the other two axis also stops. So I eyeball it right now, but that can’t be right…
I try to allign one curve in one 2D view to another curve. It works with shift, just not as precise as with a correct snap.
Thanks for any hints…

Tick “project” in the object snap bar… It will be in the construction plane after that…

You can also hold down the shift, and hit the “tab” key to contrain to that direction, and then snap. This will only affect that one use, so there’s nothing to turn back off later.
