Smoothed Subdiv wire not working

I’m using the latest beta version of wings, and the subdiv wireframe has stopped working in smooth preview mode - shift tab. Instead I just get a control cage, and w or tab don’t toggle to the smoothed wire.

how can I turn it back on?

In an older version of wings it works fine, it’s just after about 2 weeks or so of this version that it’s stopped working

Edit-preferences-misc-proxy mode:

Set it to some edges instead of cage.
