smooth proxy

hi

i hit smooth proxy and everythig looks fine but the two layers, each containing pCylinder1ProxyMesh and pCylinder1SmoothMesh don’t appear ion my layer’s tab.

also, polysmoothFace1 doesn’t appear in my channel box as it does in the tutors dvd.(check out tutor’s screenshot thumbnail) i click on polysmoothproxy1 to set a higher division to 2 but there are no division attributes. an someone help? i am using maya 7.
