Slow Viewport on Fast Machine

#1

Hello friends,

I have to PCs at home. An Athlon 64 3700+ with 3gigs of DDR400, Gigabyte NF400 Mobo, Asus N6600 256mb/128bit VGA. And an Athlon 64 x2 4400+ with 3gigs of DDR2 667, Gigabyte N series 550 modo, Ati 3650 512mb/128 GDDR3 VGA.

That issue is really weird because Mudbox 2009 works slow on viewport when I run it on my fast PC (x2 4400+)

It’s hard to describe it - I’ll try; When you rotate / pan / zoom it stops for a second. Doing the same on brushing. When you release the left mouse button to finish brushing and click again to continue it stops for a second and then continues. I was using Gigabyte Nvidia 7600GS VGA it worked like that on it too - then bought ATI Radeon 3650 but still works like that.

Weird thing is that works smooth on my slow PC (single core 3700+)

Very annoying.

Any ideas ?

Thanks in advance…

I saw that problem on OS X with the Nvidia cards but it’s not a problem with the Radeon 4870. It’s probably your video card but it’s weird that you see it happening on both Nvidia and ATI cards.

I had that problem too, but when I upgraded my machine to a 64bit OS/Mudbox it went away. I have an ATI 3870.

I downloaded latest ATI 3600 series drivers - and installed fresh with XP Pro x64. Tried Mubbox 2009 x64 with it and voila!

Works like charm! I think it was because of the Video Card driver… :hmm:
