Skin Material?

#1

Thanks to my experments with caustics (which are still in progress) I’ve learned a great deal about creating and using materials in A:M. And I must say, it’s pretty freakin’ cool! The combiners, especially gradient, look to be exremely powerful once I learn how to use them effectively.

So I was thinking about trying to use the combiner properties to create a realistic skin material which could be dropped onto a model for an extra dose of realism.

Has anybody tried this before? What were the results?

Thanks

Yesterday I posted a question on SSS Skin shaders for A:M ( Sub Surface Scattering ). Have you done anything similar to this type of effect ?

Would love to see your work.

Hmmm… that was a long time ago. Not much ever came of it unfortunately. The best results I was able to get involved rendering out several passes and then compositing them in photoshop or after effects.

However, Yves Poissant (now an employee of Hash) has created a skin shader which is supposed to be quite good. I haven’t played with it myself though. Try searching the Hash forums , a link to his skin shader will probably turn up. If not, he’s a really nice guy and you could probably just email him directly… Again, you’ll need to search the Hash forums for his address. The one listed on his web site is no longer valid.

Good Luck!
