Sketchbook Thread of Xpandemic

Hello everyone :wavey:, I’m a beginner artist ready to enter the rigorous yet rewarding path of becoming a professional artist. I liked drawing when I was young but completely stopped for around 10 years now. Currently I’m attending a beginning drawing class in community college (by Tom Gilbertson if anyone is interested) and I’m really enjoying it.

My goal is to get good enough in traditional art to be accepted into Gnomon School for their 2-year program and hopefully with dedication and motivation I’ll be able to achieve my goal. Right now I want to improve my figure drawing since its one of my biggest weak spots; I’ll be using ‘Vilppu Drawing Manual’ as my main training. If you guys have any other recommended book or tutorial I’d really appreciate it :thumbsup:

I’ll post some gesture drawings later today, thanks for taking your time to read my post!

Welcome Xpandemic :slight_smile:

It’s good that you are taking an intro. drawing class. Down the line, you might consider studying with me. I teach private classes at my studio in downtown Los Angeles, through what I call “The Drawing Workshop”. Information can be found here:

http://thedrawingworkshop.blogspot.com/

I have a number of private students studying with me currently through Sat. and Sun. workshops from 1-5 pm. The majority are students of mine from other schools where I teach (Otis College of Art, etc.) but a few are students that contacted me independently. There are all levels - beginning, intermed., and advanced, and it is so far a very friendly and collegial group.

Whatever your path, good luck, and study hard! :slight_smile:

@Rebecca
I’ll take your private classes into consideration, yeah might be a good start just to see how living in LA is gonna work out. Thanks :slight_smile:

Here’s my first gesture drawings, I’d appreciate any critiques and criticism. These do look kinda cartoonish so I’m gonna have to work on that.
