Sketchbook Thread of Warpy

warppy,

I think you are improving!

I think someone’s thread you should check out, if you have not already seen his work, is Erich’s:

Anatomy Thread of Erich Schreiner
http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=297560

He’s lately been doing a lot of master copies, which I think would be really useful for you to start doing at some point as well.

Looking good, keep going!

Cheers,

thanks becca,

i can actually feel myself getting better at this, i dont realy like doing masters stuff. i rather paint real life people

i will check this thread out, but from what i have seen so far, it seems that this dude is like 10 levels above me…

#23

cool stuff warpyy you’re getting good! keep up the good work!

#24

warppy,

No worries, it’s good to look at people with more experience ~ gives us all inspiration!

But I understand about sticking to observational drawings ~ keep at 'em!

Cheers,

okay i managed to finish the begining of the sketch above,
we went to our usual coffee shop and the same girl from last week came with us. so i decided to finish it, i learned a few things out of this:

  1. the more detail you put into the facial parts, the more realistically it will get.
  2. her hair was totaly different and i just couldnt draw it. so i made her hair smooth, which killed some of the portrait’s charm.
  3. i need to work on more lips, cheek, chins, hair.

warpyy,

Nice to see an update! I think the way you’ve observed the nose is quite nice ~ the lips could use a bit more work, but I do see that you are making progress.

Forgive me if I’ve asked you this already, but do you have in your possession any of the Burne Hogarth series of books?

I think these would be of real interest to you ~ as he breaks down form really amazingly well.

Of particular interest might be this one:

Drawing the Human Head (Paperback)

nice work!! keep it up warpy!!

i like the nose also. very detail!!!

#28

@becca : no forgiveness needed  nope have not heard of him, will check the book, it looks nice

@calisto : thanksies :slight_smile:

about the nose, i am not fully satisfied with it, it has a flaw or two, i am however very satisfied with the eyes. you cant realy see the amount of detail the paper holds. please consider that this was taken with a digicam at 5MP then shrunk down 50% insize, saved as a level 10 jpeg, so 3 steps of losing so much detail… shame but i cant help it or the picture would have been about 5MB in total.

thanks for all the love and support

warpyy,

Burne Hogarth has a lot of great books, any of which I would recommend.

The first one in this (partial) list I’ve already mentioned:

Drawing the Human Head (Paperback)

Dynamic Anatomy (Paperback)

Dynamic Figure Drawing (Paperback)

Drawing Dynamic Hands (Paperback)

Great books! I had one of his last classes ~ amazing person and teacher.

Cheers,

thanks, i actually amazoned him just now… looks very good.
right now i am using painter and doing some matt painting tutorial which is very fun atm.

#31

warppy,

Great! I think if you started to copy from Hogarth’s books, your knowledge of structure and form would increase dramatically!

#32

will do that, maybe even today.
rebecca, am i going blind, or did you just add an msn icon quickly adds rebecca

#33

Keep it up warpy! Maybe try and blend the cloud more into the sky. It seems a little too solid right now. More wispy whisps and subtle tones.

I quite like this one:

#36

thanks man, i will try a new one, most of this cloud is happy accidents. i will try to replicate it somehow…

#37

Nice work, warppy!
