Sketchbook Thread of Tom De Vis

#40

Hey, thanks for stepping by mister3D. I know I should focus more on studying, but it is just that I don’t have the time. Once I’m graduated I’ll spend some more time on studying aspect by aspect. Now I just draw what I feel like drawing/studying.
Nevertheless thanks for the tip.

got some great suggestion from Lyno ( http://linodrieghe.blogspot.com ) which I tried out today, but I guess I rushed it a bit to much to work out properly.

these are some sketches I’ve found in my sketchbook, the last few days I’ve spend a lot to much on drawing instead of exams.
I used mostly other drawings as ref to study how other artists draw characters.
Next I’m going to try and use these ways on photos!

a new version on the London animation in matte paint, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=watWGtWb8io
I wonder when they will realize that the way we are forced to work doesn’t suit all purposes…

and a fast sketch I did while watching a slow movie

and todays doodles:

I’m really trying to find a way to make sketches not that dull by just putting them on white. (the black on white papers)

So on wecookart.com there is this activity to study by drawing something 100 times, so I was looking around the web for how to draw feet and a friend showed me how david fynch draws his feet,
which made some sense to me, except that he draws the feet a lot pointier for his comics.

should be more than 100 I believe, didn’t bother counting em in the end !

#49

and some other doodles I managed to scan today !

some figure studies, I couldn’t keep myself concentrated on it !

and some SB doodles

and a quick character sketch that turned out better than expected, still havind trouble with the hands !

gonna try and start at digital painting once more !

#53

my first digital sketch, besides the rough drawings I’ve done.

Hey Tom, your work is looking really good, I was looking through everything you have submitted since the beginning, I can see lots of improvement. Love the digital sketch, looks really good. Did you use Photoshop? Keep up the good work.

I really like these last drawings. And the feet drawings you did! Really great stuff.

The breasts in your sketches tend to feel awkward to me. I dislike giving ambiguous feedback like that, so I apologise. Not quite sure what feels off about them.

Out of curiosity, is the ninja doodle in the lower corner a few pictures back Kakashi?

#56

@Pacucho: Yes that one is done in photoshop and thank you for the kind words.

@DriftingEmber: I had to look up who Kakashi was, because I drew it from a DA cosplay picture. But indeed, it is Kakashi ^^. On the boobs thing, I know what you are referring to. I tend to draw boobs unsupported, but once there are cloths they should fall differently.

A sketch of a spaceship, this is more of a concept sketch for a student film we are currently creating! (there are a lot of problems to get permissions before being able to get shooting)

Been a while since I last painted, sometimes you need the right person to get you back on track!
