Heh, no worries -
- I wouldn’t have know if someone hadn’t told me. I’m hoping they fix it soon, but they really ought to take down the website til they do. There are some threads in General Discussion and CGNews about this.

HEY…MR MU…MADE MY MORNING:bounce: …Never knew that a song was written about that event. It was just an old memory in my mind, that I thought worth saving.I didn’t think anybody out there remembered it, never mind write a song about it…I guess it did change the course of boxing history though…for a long while anyway…
THANKS for that MR MU…Will have to see if I can find that song…![]()
THANKS …Isaias…Really glad you took the time to go through my thread,…and very happy that you enjoyed the journy…
…HOPE It gave you a little insiration, and maybe a couple of idea’s for your own journy…If it did that, then I have achieved one of my main goals on this forum…the other being, learning new things myself, and myself being inspired by all the GREAT TALENT in this forum…
Thanks also for the tip on that mudbox…having fun with Z BRUSH at the moment…maybe I’LL check it out some time in the future…
THANK YOU…for the warning …Rebecca…no need to worry,…I have all I can do right now, to just try and figure out Z BRUSH…ANOTHER PROGRAM, IS THE LAST THING ON MY MIND LOL:scream:
THANK YOU for the GREAT feedback EVERYONE…![]()

Starting to block in the muscles of the standing figure of Casious Clay
Hi Glenn,
as I was reading your last post in Annette’s thread, something suddenly occured to me…
do you still draw?
I’m seeing you’re working in Zbrush a lot these days which is really really great. I was just wondering this as I know you studied under Burne Hogarth…
Anyway,
that fighting scene is coming along nicely I see
Hope to see more of it soon
Hi Glenn
Interesting theme you’re working on here, it will be great to see where you take it… ![]()
Spinning off Johan’s question: with your Zbrush… do you do sketches before you start? Playing around with the dynamics of poses and things like that? Sort of the way you’d do sketches and make little maquettes in clay before you do start the sculpture when working in non-digital 3D. Even though I’ve never tried any digital stuff, it seems to me that Zbrush is somewhere inbetween painting and sculpting; allowing you to do a bit of both in a sense… Perhaps working on a screen allows you to move through the sketching process straight into the modelling - in a way that you obviously can’t when you are working with a hands on medium. Just thinking out loud here - and it would be great to see sketches if you do them
Keep enjoying and exploring!

THANKS FOR STOPPING BY…Johan…and…Annette .
…About drawing…I think that drawing is one of many means to an end, and is the foundation of good painting and sculpting…In a sense, it is like the crawling you do before you learn to walk.
I paint and sculpt without line…I paint by creating mass, volume, with value, and tone…my method, and examples of it can be found on pages…31, 34, and 35 of this thread…Titian was just one of many, who preffered this method of conceptulizing a thought…which in the end, is what it is all about, and is the final goal, for me anyway
In that regard, it doesn’t make sense to go back to crawling, once you have learnt to walk…for me anyway…
I have learned to draw, with a big brush, and have thrown away my pen, and line…many years ago…
…That’s just me though…everybody aproaches things concerning art, in thier own way…that’s what keeps it EVOLVING, and prevents it from becoming STAGNANT…

The Z brush SCULPTURES…well to me, they are just a means to creat nice forshortened views of figures, by being able to move them around, and to be able to posistion them so as to be seen from different angles and perpectives, and in the end, to creat paintings using them in that manner…CREATING 2D FROM 3D…
THANKS FOR THE GREAT FEEDBACK

A little more on this knockdown scene…want a strong diagonal, for ACTION and MOVEMENT
Playing with composition…might end up with a triangle, once I put the refferee behind Liston.
Refining figures as I go along…found some film footage of thier second fight, which is this one…my memory wasn’t too far off…
…In the end, I hope to turn this into a full color painting, with a lot of atmosphere, and DRAMA…
Glenn! You have one astounding thread! So much to sink into and look at. Have finallly come up for air.![]()
The progress posts as you make ZBrush your own has been most fun to go through. Gives me a charge to get out and learn new media for expression. Your enjoyment of your projects come through SO strongly that one feels content after looking at your thread. It’s a pleasure to see each new page of work as I perused what I could in one sitting.
I also will go back and follow your instruction on using Painter, a program that I find very intruiging, but, frustrating because I don’t know it’s shortcuts and controls as well as I do those in Photoshop. Thanks for providing a little direction on that program.
That is awesome, SpiritDreamer! I always liked 3D + 2D works. When a piece of 3D is left ant other stuff is 2D painted, so nice. But the way you painted it, your play with the light gives a 3D feeling to those painted areas. Great decision on those colors too. Warmer in the front, cooler in the back. And how the lying boxer is put a little in the myst/fog.
Yay, SpiritDreamer, you sure now what you’re doing with that style of yours
great going, Glenn!!
did you paint those colors on the mesh in ZBrush or did you paint on the image using painter/photoshop?

Aztec FireFlower…THANK YOU for the kind words, and the visit…Really glad that you enjoyed what you have seen in my thread…been a great and fun journy for me…GREAT PEOPLE AND TALENT IN THIS FORUM, and it is proving to be a great way to learn for everyone involved…can’t be beat…
…Really impressed by those BEAUTIFUL WORKS that you posted in your new thread…Hope to see and hear a lot from you in this forum,…will really benifit everyone here I think…THANKS AGAIN, FOR THE VISIT… ![]()
THANK YOU …RAZZ …Still finding NEW PATHS TO EXPLORE…KEEPS THE ADVENTURE EXCITING…
HEY…Annand…THANK YOU…
…I used the the materials // marbles, for the skin colors, and also that render setting with best shadows that you told me about…that’s great by the way,…really like the cast shadows it creats on the figures…wonder if there is a way to make cast shadows appear as though they are being cast by the figure onto the ground and background… WITH THE Z BRUSH PROGRAM…
After I got the skin color in Z BRUSH, I put the figures into painter # 9…used the spotlights in effects // SURFACE CONTROL I think, APPLY LIGHTING for the background colors. Then I TWEAKED THE CONTRAST ect.until I got the skin colors the way I wanted them.
Then I painted the gloves and trunks with a large oil tinting brush…then went over those painted areas…trunks / gloves with the LIQUID METAL BRUSH …SET TO TRANSPARENT…gives it that wet and shiny
look…like painting with liquid glass…goes good with the wet shiny look of the Z BRUSH effect I chose for the skin of the figures I THINK…JUST REALLY EXPERIMENTING WITH EVERY TRICK AND TECHNIQUE THAT I KNOW ON THIS ONE,…UNTIL I FIND WHAT WORKS IN THIS Z BRUSH // PAINTER # 9 COMBO TECHNIQUE THAT I’M EXPLORING…

THANKS FOR THE GREAT FEEDBACK…EVERYONE
HAVE A GREAT ONE…![]()

Z BRUSH // PAINTER #9 …COMBO
THIS MORNINGS PLAY
Thinking about putting the edge of the ring, the ropes, and a crowd of faces with different expressions, beyond the ropes, to add depth…going to push it as far as I can,…will probably
push it too far, but hopefully there will be a couple of versions along the way that will be worth keeping…This is the best way that I know how to take an idea and run with it…where it leads…ONLY THE SHADOW KNOWS…

Hi Glenn
Just came here to say “WOW, very impressive use of Zbrush/painter!”. I’m about to start experiments like yours, and I’m liking your results very much. I agree with your opinion about digital sculptures, they are so good as regular drawings, and maybe even better, for give us the understanding of masses in a way 2d drawings can’t do.
Keep it up, it’s becoming a great piece.

Hi…Jramauri…Glad to have you stop by…
…THANK YOU, for the kind words also…
Can’t wait to see your experiments. It’s all good, as long as you learn from it …![]()

Played around with this scene a little this morning…just trying out whatever comes to mind
at this point…will put people sitting in ringside seats next…should give it more depth, emotion…DRAMA ect…
Created from imagination, using Z BRUSH and PAINTER #9
Very cool direction you’ve taken with this, Glenn…as always with your vibrant lighting…it takes on such a sculptural look.
Neat to see how you develop your ideas.
Cris
I can really smell the sweat… heavy, wet air… all I’m missing is just(the slightest) hint of a crowd… maybe some very vague and dark head contours in the back…
Anyway, this looks really alive… there’s gonna be only one winner in this one
Thanks for sharing Glenn!

Had a lot of fun this morning, filling up the ring side seats…LOL…

All the figures in this painting are from imagination, and created using Z BRUSH AND MODIFIED using PAINTER #9
This painting is dedicated to my Father, who taught me how to draw, and use my imagination, when I was a child, I remember listening to this fight on the radio with him, when I was just a kid…was hoping to finish it before he died, so I could show him it, but just got the call as I am typing this, that he has just died…LOVE YOU DAD
SORRY HAVE TO GO NOW…WILL POST REPLIES LATER
TAKE CARE EVERYONE
Glenn
My condolences, Glenn,
So sorry to hear about your father. He must have been a senstive caring man, judging by the kind and patient person I gather you to be from your many helpful and supportive posts you’ve shown me and many others. My heart, as I’m sure all our creative companions’ on these forums also, is with you.
Take care Glenn,
Will be watching out for when you post again.
Esmeralda
