Hi…Womball…THANKS for the great tips and links …always helpful. I will try them out for sure…

Hi…Cavematty…THANK YOU…
I have been on this forum from the very get go. I hope I have helped some people along the way. It is a two way street though, and a lot of people in here have helped me also.
It’s a system that workes well, for everyone involved. A global art community, is something that has never accured,or been possible until NOW. Pretty AMAZEING, when you stop and think about it. Should lead to some GREAT ART, and ARTIST, I THINK.
I am just glad, and thankful that I have been, and am part of it, and may have in the process, contributed something positive toward and to it…TIME WILL TELL
Would really like to see some of your Z BRUSH WORK

Hi…Anandpg…THANK YOU…
I have had a bunch of people in this forum helping me to try to understand Z BRUSH, and I hope you will be one of them also.Your step by steps with Z BRUSH in your anatomy thread already have been of a great help, as a matter of fact.
I bought a DVD by Glen Southern of Kurv Studios…Get Into Z BRUSH…Reccomended by Cris Palomino, who is in this forum also.
That DVD has been a huge help to me. I have just started to check it out, in the last couple of weeks…It’s great, because I can stop it , and go back over what was explained over and over, and over, until I get it…LOL:) …I also like to get off of the beaten path, and just go exploring …keeps it exciting and makes it an adventure…
I am really glad that you enjoy my paintings. Will be more to come for sure. Right now, I am
just trying to learn Z BRUSH, so that I can use it’s magic in my paintings. I don’t think that I wil ever get into anamation…I am having a hard enough time already with exploring and experimenting with 2D.:scream: …And a whole lot of pleasure and fun of course also…
Wouldn’t want to bite off more than I can chew, at this point in my life…old enough to know better,…and still young enough to enjoy what I do know…and WISE ENOUGH TO KNOW THE DIFFERENCE…LOL :bounce:

THANKS FOR THE FEEDBACK EVERYONE
TAKE CARE
Glenn

A practice in using flat, diffused lighting, to creat atmosphere, enhance mood, and to soften this otherwise hard sculptural Z BRUSH figure.
Thinking of creating the illussion of a cielling painting, with figures floating upward through the air, vaporizing into the atmosphere and diffused light.

Woke up at 3am this morning…was bugged at how to make these figures appear to be wieghtless and floating through the air, instead of heavy sulptures done in Z BRUSH.
Think I figured it out…:scream: …Now I have a system to work on the cielling painting that I envisioned, using the figures that I creat in Z BRUSH along with Painter # 9

Man, you’re like the energizer bunny, Glenn. :bounce:

Nice ZSphere work. Those sturdy guys of yours are really having at it, aren’t they?

I always love coming in here and seeing what you are up to.

Glad Glen’s dvd has been helpful to you.

Cris

Hey, Glenn. Was always looking at your updates. Loves that you’ve done the three graces of your own, hehe. Was really nice to see it  And the later work, great. Somehow I just want to call him Hercules. Don’t know why. Maybe because of all the muscles and his beard. I like the thing that you always experiment with the lighting and have something good in mind, trying to reach for it, not just filling the image with effects.

Keep up with it, please.

Ha, energizer bunny

Man, I’ve been so busy and have missed out on the action here for the past few days . I love the way you’re experimenting with the placement of the figures and the lighting. I think the lighting you used in the last one really expands the space that the figures are in- it’s very cool indeed .

I have to admit, though, that my favorite is actually #737. I really dig the way the two forms create this tension as they push towards each other- They look like two Spartan wrestlers or something. In fact, the opposing lighting intensifies things by making it seem the two ‘fighters’ are coming out of the light and into the ‘darkness’ of battle. The way that you’ve pitted warm light against cool coming from their respective ‘corners’ also helps to peg the two figures as adversaries. mmmmmmmmm. Maybe I’m thinking too much :curious:.

Awesome work as always…

#746

Hey Glenn

Yes! energizer bunny seems appropriate  been inundated with work the last week and half and had haven’t had a chance to pop in, WHOOOOOSHHH! all these new things popping up
You really are a great experimenter and the way you play and let the playfulness show in your work, great thing! I like the floating feeling in your figures, floating yet at teh same time their strength is obvious with all those muscles on sturdy men… interesting combination!

Like the colour and will be exciting to see where you take them

Take care and cheers!

THANK YOU…Frejasphere…That childhood desire to play, is something that should always be cherishes, treasured and never outgrown…One of the most valuble assets a person has,…Chilhood imagination, and PLAY, keeps the MAGIC IN LIFE and ART…ALIVE

THANKS…Myku…No,…your not thinking too much…All of those thoughts concerning light and dark forces went through my head, when creating the lighting on that one…also the thought of creating depth with two colors…:scream:

THANK YOU…Razz…Glad you enjoyed those three graces…nice idea you had there . Also glad you are enjoying my journy,…hope it helps you in some way on yours, which is off to a FANTASTIC start by the way. :applause:

THANKS …Cris…Panic sets in, so much to say, so little time left…An effect that for sure produces a lot of energy.:scream: …Yes,…That DVD is a huge help to me…can’t thank you enough for leading me in that direction…

A little closer to the way I visualized this painting. This is the farthest point up…figures will get bigger, and more defined, with more colors ect. as they get lower in the composition, and closer to the viewer. This is just a practice for the final painting, which will have lots of varied figures, male and female, intertwined ect…Just dreaming out loud here…:scream:

#748

Amazing modeling as usual  I think it will look great with more combinations of colors like you said. it will add more life i believe. I’m looking forward to the finished piece =>

#749

Hey Glenn.

I must say I liked the one composition better where they both wrestled or pushed each other.

But if you pursue them flying or hovering then I have a question:

is it possible to switch back to the ZSpheres mode and tweak the pose of some of the models? You could bring in a greater variety not based on the tilt or turn of the bodies alone, but you could have some of them stretch their arms upwards or the bottom-most models crouch like a tiger before jumping high into the air or something.

Just a thought from the dark corners of this thread wherein I lurk…:scream:

#750

Hi Glenn…
Nice compositions  … I think you will go a long way with ZBrush…
One quick question… would you consider using another more traditional 3d Package(like Maya or 3dsMax) to position your ZBrush figures in space? … thats what I always do…
Advantages are that you get a readymade 3D environment with perspective and multiple orthographic views for realistic positioning of objects… among others. On the whole, I think you will feel the freedom of an additional dimension more if you use a traditional package. ZBrush is great for sculpting, but when it comes to positioning things in 3D space, i have felt that it is just 2.5D … or it maybe that I havent explored all the possibilities.

Hi…Talaria…THANKS…Not sure where I am going with this…mostly just experimenting and learning as I go…

THANKS for the visit, and the good suggestion…starting my second z sphere figure tomarrow…will do like you suggest on that one…getting tired of playing with this one,…time to creat him a companion…:scream:

Anandpg…THANK YOU for the encouragment, kind words, and sound advice…my brain is straining trying to comprehend this Z BRUSH,…Another software at the moment, will really
short circuit my mind I think…down the road MAYBE, if I ever master this Z BRUSH…

THANKS for the great feedback…EVERYONE
TAKE CARE
Glenn

Just having fun with composition, motion, and lighting

#752

Heya Glen: the last one…superb…YES - that’s it

-cheerZ- :wavey:

Ah, I am not fully out of retirement just yet. But when I am I will “buy this town” as Jimi Hendrix once said…:scream:

heck, I like this steel lighting!

And especially the composition. Looks like a classical religious theme now, ascending and descending souls: vary the poses, stretch the canvas, add a few demons on the bottom and a shining light on top and you got a classical, renaissance spiritual fresco. The wonderfully curved anatomy of the bodies helps to evoce a classical connotation.

Or you just keep experimenting…:scream:… every morning I take a look at your variations it sparks a new idea…f-u-n…

EDIT: Glenn, the man needs a penis…just does not look right with all the rest of the body so truthfully and vivid…

#754

Hi Glenn…
I like that last one…

About the query you posted in my thread about modeling hands with ZSpheres…
You can make the hand using zspheres with usual manner, but the mesh will be really twisted and useless when you start 5 branches from a single zsphere.
So it will be better to just model the palm and the thumb with zpheres, and make the rest of the fingers using EdgeLoop after baking it into polygon mesh.
I have recorded the method in a ZScript for you and attached with this message. Just load it in ZBrush from the “ZScript” menu and press the play button in the bottom tray.

About the penis…EUNUCH TAKEN A STEP FURTHER …
One should never abuse SPIRITEARTH… ANGRY LADY…PERPETUATION ENDED…JUST PUNISHMENT…
NOT FORGOTTEN TRUTH…IN THE BEGGINING,… HE WAS A SHE, AND NO BOOK IS EVER GOING TO CHANGE THAT FACT…

Anandpg…THANKS A MILLION for that hand demo…will really come in handy… on my next figure…

great composition, Glenn-gelo…

it’s interesting how individual the pose looks from so many angles. I especially love the angle on the top right one.

One thing that makes me wonder:

  • The pose of mother earth along with the cone of light from above on the top…
  • …and the alignment of the bodies on the bottom…

actually form a wonderful iconic trapezoid which enhances the spiritual background of the whole thing.
But right now, the canvas looks a bit cropped on the left hand side. Is that on purpose to loosen that iconic composition up? I would love to see it laid out perfectly symmetrical.

You know, when I have a cupboard and the corner of a room, I always push it into the corner so that the two right angles fit into each other, while my girlfriend tries all kinds of funny combinations which I can hardly stand to watch…:scream:

I need symmetry and alignment…does that make me autistic…or just german? :scream:

#757

Hello,

the last piece is very impressive and the different views of the men are hard to ignore, lol, I want to combine, compare… every single detail.

Perhaps I am a little autistic, too? @murat The monk-syndrom :scream:

What I specially love in this last piece is, how you handle the colors. Though the men falling down, there is a very high energy in mother earth. The men really fade out of the scene, at the same time they are totally solid standing for themselves as individuals. Enough space for personal thoughts and enough strenght, don’t know how to say, that keep the relevance.

Ciao,
Ellie

Hi Glenn

What a lovely surprise! the way you added your Earthspirit spiritearth to the composition
It REALLY works!! :bounce: And your thoughts on it are great! there’s so much that can be said with art and imagery that can’t be said in any other way. Amazing work, you should be very happy! :applause:

you take care!
cheers
a.

I need symmetry and alignment…does that make me autistic…or just german? :scream:

LOL it must be autistic then because i feel the same not being German LOL

Glenn I love the colours - that blue with the yellow looks awesome!
one thing that’s disturbing me is that it’s hard to tell the shapes of those figures floating about - they seem to be overlapping each other too much making it a tad too messy…

so sorry Glenn, it’s late and I thought I was in my thread and posted a picture here! have removed it, but did get quite a shock when I realised I was posting in yours!
