aLoneCuzzo: Thanks! Really glad you enjoy my work. Will take a look at your stuff when it cools off a little - my computer is staring to overheat! LOL

Never been that good at transparent fabric, so this one will be great practice. Really like the colors on this one so I thought I would give it a shot. And considering it is June and flaming hot where I am at, it seemed appropriate.

You have a very interesting, unique style of painting. At least I’ve never seen such before. I don’t even have to mention how great you’re doing it :applause:

#463

wonderful colors you put into these paintings, glen! I’ve tried something like that and failed miserably… :frowning: I need tones of doodleing with the tablet, and no time for any… (actually… i’m not into digital very much right now, but that’s maby because i can’t get those colors and shapes right… )
Siju’s sketch is superb! Damn… So that’s the way you look!
well… keep kicking with your great palette there!
I’ll be comeing back for more!

cheers!

Razz : Thanks for stopping by, I really appreciate it. Glad you like my style of painting. Took me awhile to figure it out.

Hey Icey! : Great to hear from you!! Took me awhile to figure out how to do this on the computer…whole lot of trial and error and experimentation…and I am still trying to figure it out as I go along!

Hiya Glenn,

That corner head looks really interesting, it would be quite cool to see a row of these busts, such as you see in a museum, lined up on shelves. I recently visited the National Galery here in DC and there was a row of Daumier busts / characters (I believe) which remind me quite a lot of your ZBrush sculpts.

Keep up the great work! Your advice around here is really invaluable!

Cheers,

~Rebeccak

Glenn,

the head study in the lower right corner lookin up is so gently curved and has such a nice expression and flow about it! Great work.

Are you still updating the evaluation with newly requested keys (what a great strategy by the marketing dpt. of ZBrush… you need quite a bit of time to get accustomed to their tool)?
It seems you could benefit from the full functionality… or rather… I 'd just love to see what you will do with more ZBrush horsepower.

#467

nice zbrush studies… it has some 2d feel to it.
I don’t like the red/yellow colors, but the green blueish is nice!
keep it up man, this is really good stuff

Thanks Rebecca - Daumier - WOW ! He is one of my all time favorites for his mastery of expression.
As far as helping with advice etc, just my way of giving back.
Like that idea for the Zbrush heads that you suggested.

HEY MR MU : Thanks !
What are these new Zbrush functions you just mentioned. I haven’t heard any thing about them yet… Maybe you can clue me in when you have a spare moment…

Cyanid : Thanks for stopping by. I am glad that you liked that smaller head. It was one of those happy accidents that happens while experimenting with colors and lighting. The colors in that smaller head would not be possible without the brighter orange, yellow and red being there first. And probably it wouldn’t look the same without those bright colors next to it. It was an experiment in hot and cold complimentary colors and how they can compliment and enhance each other when used in the right amounts and placed next to each other. It is the 10 to 1 ratio of complimentary color that I described further back on this thread while working with SIJU on his boxing painting.
The way it works is if you put a small green dot in the middle of a big area of red or vice versa in a 10 to 1 ratio you will get the fullest effect of complimentary colors. It is a principle used alot in op-art (optical-art). I learned it many years ago in color theory class. Some colors vibrate and enhance each other when placed next to each other. The same principle can be applied to any kind of painting that you paint. And can be very effective when the colors’ values are modified from a pure color to a diluted shade of that color.
You just never know until you dare to experiment.

Beautiful so far

argh!

from the very first reflections on that silky cloth I can tell that this is going to be great…

the sleeping face will be a challenge, too.

There is an alternative to zbrush called sharpconstruct. Its like a stripped down version but one big difference, its free and opensource. And it seems like it will be absorbed by the program Blender, which I’m using. Blender is also free and opensource. Its what I have been using up to this point on my model. However zbrush has so many features its is really worth buying. This looks great already!

WOMBALL : Thank you ! And also thank you for the new information. Will have to check that out …

Color and lighting studies using Zbrush and Painter 9

your use of color always surprises me. I can’t help but wonder what it means to you… why you choose certain colors for certain paintings etc.
haa… I’ve just spent an hour looking at all your work (here and on your site) got kind of lost in it

i love what you’re doing in ZBrush!
the one time i used it to make something:

#474

Hi…Womanonfire…HEY…I like that Z BRUSH sculpture you just posted…would make a great bracelett…nice idea you have there, using the figure in that way …GREAT IMAGINATION…

Thanks for takeing the time to see my works,…I haven’t even done that in a long time myself,…too busy looking forward LOL…GLAD TO HEAR YOU ENJOYED THE JOURNY…

About your question concerning my use of color…had to sleep on that one awhile, and try to
remember the reasons why they are the way they are.
I think it has a lot to do with the fact that my father raised and bred exotic birds, his whole life, and I also followed in that same path…breeding them, in such a way as to
CREAT NEW COLORS…matching up pairs that have colors that are great… with each other…, and
watching their offspring come out with colors that are better than the parents.
MAGIC HYBREDS OF COLOR …
I mostly try to put into my paintings , colors, and combinations of colors that I see in birds.
On those last three that I posted, …I was thinking of HUMMINGBIRDS…:bounce:

I think that nature is the TRUE MASTER OF COLOR, and her creations are what I use to learn from, when it comes to COLOR…

THANKS …Womanonfire… for makeing me think about why I use color the way I do…brought
back some great memories…

TAKE CARE
Glenn

ICEY: THANKS! Kind of like those faceted areas in Zbrush myself, kind of remind me of contour drawing. Glad you liked my colors.

THE SUN FAIRY

I sold one print of this picture a couple years ago to a woman in Puerto Rico.
Mrs Spirit Dreamer keeps finding this image on web sites all over the planet - the last one a Greek site.
So thought since it is so well liked and popular that I should at least share it here.
Created it from my own imagination. No references used. Painter 5

Hey Glenn

Amazing stuff as always. Like the last z-brushes - a more personal air to them, great colours. Think some colours conflict here and there - no big problemo - desaturation might help, but it’s just a personal opinion. You’ve got serious style man. Muchothanx for all the inspiration and advice - truly appreciate it.

Abyssis : Thanks for the visit…Like the desolveing edges, and the textures in your Z BRUSH paintings…Really like the mixed media, like you used on that war chief that you have in your portfolio…

After seeing that Z brush figure in your portfolio that looks like Sitting Bull with a war bonnet, I thought you might enjoy this piece…I call it HOOP OF LIFE… DREAM CATCHER.
Thinking of doing it anew, using Z BRUSH…PAINTER #9 combination

So it is fine with me if you make a tutorial of the techniques you are using with Zbrush and put them in my thread…will be useful for everyone who reads it …specially me…go for it!

Take care…Glenn
