the centennial cow is a CA.org thing…topic 100 of the Creature of the Week consists of doing 100 thumbnail creatures.
Very nice work. Are you going to do all the 100 thumbs in a white background? anyways, lovely stuff.

hey nr43,
yes…tragic about glenn. i knew exactly what happened from a med illus mind-set once i read the story. sometimes it sucks knowing anatomy and pathology. it made me sad to know that i won’t see glenn’s art continue to stun me with his talent.
career is on a roll, sure enough…been pretty steady but now it’s turning up the heat even more.
cow 100 is indeed 100 creatures.
hey cyanid,
thanks! i’ve got 4 done and another one started. all will be on white backgrounds. adding in scenery only decreases recognition of the creature’s silhouette and that’s goal number 1. then painting in the details and bumping contrast in a few areas of interest is goal 2. of course, actually creating 100 creatures is goal 3.
i’ll keep updating this in groups of three as i do them.
cheers!

so i bailed on doing the 100th COW due to time constraints/conflicts with work/class.
but i have been doodlin’.
here’s three links.
Two for IF topics:
Grow
Trick or Treat
And this link is to Penelope (IF moderator) Monster Mash 2007. Go to page 7 of the series and toward the end of the collection you’ll find my monster.
Grow was a fifteen minute sketch and an hour of pshop.
Trick or treat is all digital in pshop and was about 4 hours total.
Monster is roughly 4 hours in painter.
Cheers,
Dave
Heya Dave, killer work as always.
Looking forward to meeting you in Seattle! Bring it on, I say.
thanks rk…ya know, nothing special…work has been kickin’ me in the pants and the class i’m taking ‘intro to ad concepts’ is really sparking my visual and written library.
heck…add to that the idea of goin’ back to school to get an mba…well…i’m all over the map right now. dunno how my wife keeps up with me. damn gemini that i am. hah!
see ya in january!
cheers,
d
Sorry this is tiny, but I’m hindered by the max upload size of images. Long story short, this is a 22x28" poster for an event at the UW called BizTech. The upcoming event is centered on a ‘Space’ theme. Faculty and Staff at the UW attend this event. The earth, moon and space/stars are all separate elements composited together. I was able to leverage free 3D models of the earth and moon via Google 3D Warehouse and Photoshop CS3 Extended. Space shots were freebies too. Logo done in Illustrator.

ooh…ahh…a simple little figure focusing on a macrophage and the fun that happens within it when capsase-1 is activated. adobe illustrator in 3 hours. one of my uw client projects. this is about as ‘concepty’ as i’m able to get right now. joy of joys.
cheers,

finally some illustration work.
this is one of two figures for a surgical article regarding access concerns for a posterior cruciate ligament repair. this image labels key items to be aware of, along with general anatomy.
red line mechanical pencil on tracing paper (2 hours), scanned at 600 dpi with 3 passes to get a solid scan. rendered in pshop (2 hours). of course, this is after several concept sketches to get the details just right.
cheers,
d
Here’s the follow-up figure showing the vessels moved laterally to better visualize the PCL avulsion. Same rendering protocol as the last image in previous post.
Cheers,
D
…lol…the only lessons you’ll get from me are to have you watch the masters at the conference.
i’m glad you like them tho…i’m pleased with them too!
hope you’re doin’ well…see ya in january.
cheers,
d

Hey KM,
Thanks for the kind words! Well…an entire day in my SB?! I hope it was time well spent. I know I’m one of the odd ducks here and knowing you’re supporting me is very well received. Thanks again and best wishes!

hey all…not too much goin’ on as of late, but i did complete these two figures yesterday for a client’s grant proposal. it’s all illustrator with a smidge of photoshop editing in the final output stage.
been going to figure drawing the past 3 weeks and am starting to find my groove again. maybe one of these days i’ll post them.
hope everyone is well!

that would be great :bounce:
Really curious to see life drawings from a perfectionist like you
trust me…when it comes to figure drawing, my perfectionism checks itself in at the door so the rest of me can just go in and learn. i go to a monday night class and each time it has been one pose and clothed. i’m not sure what tomorrow night will be like, but i’d like to do some shorter poses too. i find myself only focusing on the head and shoulders (the bust) with the long poses…must be a fear of doing the full body. lol!
okay…i’ll get some stuff photo’d and uploaded later.
thanks for your interest!
cheers,

hallway poster for work - the vector line art was a purchase from istockphoto that was tweaked to meet our needs in terms of size, color and elements. it’s 92 x 44" at final size.
enjoy and happy holidays!
d
hey Red,
the new image is so full of energy and life i love it.its my desktop wallpaper now

Amry
hey amry,
thanks, but i can’t take the credit for the illus…only how that illus was utilized and reformated. the chap that did the illus has numerous holiday vector illustrations that you can download for a fee and repurpose for your needs. in this case, i wanted a crisp, dynamic display that would allow for some subtle manipulations in color palette and details and allow for our tagline to be readily visible - ‘merry creative’.
here’s the link to the original image: http://www.istockphoto.com/file_closeup.php?id=3959980 .
that way you can see the before and after. sometimes, just finding the right image is all it takes to make a marketing ploy work. art direction is an art that i’m learning.
if i had a few hours to create the piece, i would have. the content is killer and i think the one element that would have taken a while to prep is the ornament. the rest of the stuff is fairly basic illustrator creation. this guy has great ideas tho, and just had to go with his solutions in this case.
all the best!
