Sketchbook Thread of Raylistic

#1

Hi everyone, I used to have a sketchbook here, but I did not have time to update it due to school and working on final projects. Finally, I have graduated with a diploma! Now that I have got a job, an overseas job in fact, so I have settled in after a few months and now I would like to get back to anatomy drawings.
For a start, here is a drawing of a skull I have completed today.

Hope to hear from you guys soon!

Latest sketch. Erm, I have just shifted back to Singapore. For these 2 weeks, i am trying to settle back in and hopefully I will get more time to do more figure drawings. I hope to get some comments in shading too other than drawing. Thanks. Here you go, my WIP entry for figure drawing 001:

If you’re going for full shaded drawings, I would suggest not to draw your linework too dark all around and build up the accents as you go along.
Remember that a line should represent an edge in 3D space and not a line in 3D space.

ok, thanks for the advice. Will keep that in mind when i do my next drawing.

that skull cracks me up, i love it! haha. great job with shading on it as well!!

with the most recent drawings, dont be afraid to draw an underlying scratch light skeletal structure underneath even for referenced drawings, you’ll find things line up and seem more structured :)!

Thanks Auria!
I have seen your thread. You have good painting skills.
As your comment on drawing an underlying scratch light skeletal structure underneath even for referenced drawings, can you elaborate?
It would be better if you can provide an image.

certainly  like the reference for your one picture.

that way you can follow the form around the underlying structure as a basis instead of starting one place and trying to relay everything off of that as you go along. dont trace or anything, draw your own skeleton on your piece of paper, it just gives a start to the WHOLE drawing instead of a single piece of it

the skeletal structure helps  even for non referenced photos!

COol. Thanks alot. Really appreciate it, Auria!

Hi everyone, new updates. Been busy reading and learning from andrew loomis figure drawing books. Some stuff lately:

Loomis books are really good learning resources!

Hi everyone, been doing some shading to this lately. Still working on the female face. Kinda screw up, lol! I am not really good at drawing face yet. Comments are very welcome.

hey  great reference used for the guy on the left in the last one. looks great! faces only come with practice practice practice practice practice practice. you can only understand it the more you draw it, then one day it’ll start to click and you’ll truely understand the way it works, and it will become a lot easier for you ^^

Thanks Auria, sorry, did not see the reply last time. Yeah, I been practising some basic face structures recently. Here they go:

As usual, learned from loomis books.
More to come, until I am confident enough to do portait or facial drawings!
Have fun everyone!
