Samanthie: I was trying to draw some furniture today but my table is fixed in the wall so i had to keep turning my head, it was WORST than boring! I gave up and just grabbed this statue as a “model” (yeah laaaazy)

Thanks for your comments, i’m still learning the very basics but until some days ago i was incapable of any kind of drawing, a block or something like it, so it’s pretty nice to finally be able to follow some exercises and see the progress.

I was planning to post a sketch every day (a way to force myself to draw) but i had alot of trouble with a perspective study today =/

I have this thing on my table for a long time but never REALLY looked at it, i had to draw a cilindric object and i saw it, here starts my nightmare…
The thing have crazy forms engraved in the base, nothing that i can recognise at least. As it’s just a perspective study i gave up when i reached the main perspective shape but i’ll come back and draw just the base in the future.
I was really eager to draw an anatomy study today so at first drawing the perspective study small seemed a good idea… soon after i found out that it was harder to put datail with less pixels, turned to be more time consuming (DUH!) =[

Hope to be able to post something nicer tomorrow.

And here is the damn thing if someone is curious.

Hey it’s great that you start with the basics first.

Perspective studies are really important and a lot of digital artists avoid them because they think they are boring… but it can be quite challenging sometimes.
I had to do them for many weeks at school and I did all of the assignments with the greatest enthousiasm. It’s easy when you realize the importance…

One thing I might suggest is not to spend too long trying to get the details right. If you can choose between 2 perspective exercises that are only medium to low detailed, rather than just one detailed exercise, I would choose the first option :wink:
why not do a couple of perspective exercises without shading them?

draw a couple of objects around you in the room
then do one of the room you are in (you’ll be in for a surprize)

I think the chandelier turned out great btw…

Hi Andre, You are doing nicely with your sketches. Try what Johan suggests and see if that will help you. I enjoy looking at your sketches so please keep posting!:slight_smile:

I was hoping to finish it but i feel that i’ll procrastinate it so i’m calling it finished.
My first anatomy study, it’s based on photo reference, i experimented new aproaches but i feel too green to acomplish what i was planning (full scene with cloth etc). I’ll stick to more simple exercises for now. (just perspective studys without shading)
I was about to start working on the head but i think that the torso is ok.

Hi Andre, Keep posting your sketches.:slight_smile: I would suggest you finish this one and blend the lines on the torso more. It’s a very good start. Thanks for stopping by my thread, lovely comment. :slight_smile:

hey you’re doing a really good job for just starting out! Don’t even bother with drawing things that bore you, but if you want to learn and practice just find things that you would enjoy drawing, whatever it may be. If you don’t enjoy it, it’s much harder to do.

I was a little frustrated with the blending tools in artrage so i’m giving Painter a try.
Just messing with the blenders.

Su: thanks, i’m kinda lost because shading using the blenders is pretty distinct from the workflow i was using in artrage (apart from my lack of skill) =]

I’m just fooling around in painter to familiarize myself, tryed some of the new tools to color the naked guy. (i’ll not spend time coloring yet, i’ll stick to grayscale sketches)
I’m trying to figure out a nice workflow to use in painter but tomorrow i’ll try to sketch new stuff, thanks for your tips =]

After dealing with alot of frustration i’m practicing again. Hope this time i can keep the regular exercices.

I really enjoy zombies and this zombie girl was alot of fun to draw, hope the image isn’t offensive. Still the old lame flat looking garbage but i’ll try hard to improve. Photo reference used for most of the pose.

We all struggle from time to time but as long as we pick up the pencil again we’re gonna be allright… right?

Why don’t you try the skull shading exercise that can be found in the tutorials forum?
Also, I would love to see you getting into some serious anatomy and gesture studies.
Merely some suggestions, think it would be to your benefit :wink:

For the zombie maybe you have to watch where her left breast goes to, but otherwise it’s a really nice piece. :slight_smile:

Sorry if it took so much time to post new stuff but I have been drawing less than i should and mostly using chalk and paper (no scanner at home) but i would like to post some stuff i did lately using digital tools.

Thanks again for all the advises, i really should focus in perspective studies and i’ll try again to learn it.

As sugested I am doing some anatomy studies, just boring copys from anatomy books.

And sometimes a quick sketch just to keep the dream alive =]

Hello ManoVelho, nice studies of the arm :thumbsup:

I think you should start from bottom to top, meaning that capturing the gesture is the first priority in my humble opinion. I understand that you are eager to draw what you imagine, but with learning the basics, you will establish a solid basis. One step at a time, and with patience you will be drawing better and better!

Keep up working, and i’m sure you will be happy with the results! :slight_smile:
