Love that piece, and the thought and idea behind it…:thumbsup: …If it were to talk, I wonder what it would say…:banghead: :scream: :eek: …Would be fun to put a tape player into it and have it voice some of it’s opinions on humanity, technology, waste disposal and voice it’s reflections of how it came into being, and where and how it might end up…:hmm:

Hi Glenn, haha, yeah, it might have some cutting things to say ill wager lol....ive been thinking, due in some part to the things people have been saying, that it might be an idea to keep working on the piece until i get a part bust, that would cover the rod and base which some have said detracts from the work, i was thinking of doing that anyway so maybe i`ll keep going…

Been working on some small busts using polymer clay and here are pics of the first one…the sculpture is 15cm high, the bust itself only 10cm, the head 5cm…

the clay is called Sculpey a polymer, or oil, based clay used mainly in the film or game industry. it also a unique feature among polymer clays, you can bake it in the oven. bake it a conventional oven for an hour @ 150c and it will go rock hard, so hard that you can drill it. pretty amzing stuff, odd to work with at first but you get used to it. there are other oil based clays, Chavant is another, im using that now so ill post the results and thoughts when im done. both Chavant and Sculpey are very fine so you can get lots of detail in your work. unfortunately you cant bake Chavant in the oven it stays relatively soft, it`s usually used as a base to make something more permanent, like a bronze.

Cool! Real stuff, not polygons. I’ve seen THIS yesterday and it reminded me how amazingly awesome sculpting is, out of clay or polygons. But having the physical thing must feel better :slight_smile:

i love working with something in my hands, guess ive worked so long with my hands [engineering] that it comes as second nature.....the guys in your video rock dont they, seriously good stuff…i love the work of Jordu Schell, dont know if youve heard of him…

Wow I really like your ‘Ode to modern man’ (I like your sister’s name so going with that…) - the colours and materials are just great! And I like the way you’ve brought it all together to create a really interesting piece - it’s like Glenn says, he seems to know a lot :slight_smile: The old man is looking good too :thumbsup:

Hi all, a new mini bust, this time made from a clay called Chavant, polymer like Super Sculpey but you cant harden this in the oven, stays soft which is a shame and has made me think that i wont use it again unless i am making something for bronzing…

its about 20cm high in total and from imagination, except for a few trips to google for some bodybuilding refs.....its not as smooth as the Sculpey bust due to the waxy nature of Chavant which really needs a hot gun to constantly warm the clay which i didnt have so i just kneeded and smoothed as best i could...... just a shame i cant bake it, ill just have to keep it out of reach so i dont knock it over and ruin it…
