Sketchbook Thread of Kanga - 3D

#1

As of 23:00 hours last night the servers of my provider suffered what is being called an electrical power peak. All disks including RAID5 disks became corrupted,… all data was lost including backup data! The Amsterdam center where the drives lived is calling this an act of God. Like a lightning strike. I am ok because my provider is a friend of mine and am up to my ears in backup dvd’s and external drives.

Anyhow what I didn’t have is a copy of the structure (paths) of my private work I have posted on the web and while I still have the images I cant replace them one by one. In the meantime though here are some illustrations and drawings. The new work starts here:http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?p=5398250#post5398250

Art-werx.com apologizes for any inconvenience and wishes to thank all of you for your kind support on this and other threads.

Cheers Chris

   Old message.
   Hi!
Been following this forum for quite a while and find it very inspiring. What I like the most is the spontaneity of the 2d/3d artists here.
Just the idea of being able to sketch in 3d is something mind boggeling, so I will give it my best shot. My aim is not to spend too long on any one piece.

Hey Kanga, great to see you join the fray! It will be fantastic to follow your progress. Always nice to have a new 3D person aboard to spread the knowledge.

Thanx Rebecca.
Have been a long time admirer of your work and the energy you put into cgtalk! There sure are alot of amazing folks here.

Welcome!

I’ll second Rebecca, great to see a new 3D person.

What do you mean by “not too long”, mm? Whatever you mean, don’t rush things, take your time. Speed comes with skill

Hi razz!
Thanx for the welcome:eek:.
Your work is beautifull BTW.
Umm what I meant by not taking too long is to concentrate more on the bigger lines. Until now 3d has been very technical, and still is to some degree, but with the advent of apps like zbrush, mudbox and even modo we now are free to sculpt. There is no excuse not to concentrate on the important aspects of art. Like anatomy and expression. I have a tendancy to get lost in the math and miss the flow. To cure that I am going to have to free up ha ha!

Hi Kanga  Nice to have you join the Anatomy forum YAY! One more 3d person
I do like the sketch a lot - especially the flowing, dynamic hair!

Hi Intervain!
I admire your work very much. Congratulations on the front page justice sculpt (my favorite so far  ). Thanx for the kind comments on the sketch.

Thanks Kanga. Hope you’ll be participating in one of Magda’s future Workshops.

Hi Rebecca!
Ah a challenge from the lady Magda,… the gauntlet is cast:).

Cool, it will be interesting to see how this will develop - what’s the character that you have in mind? He looks a bit elfish.

#11

Hi Rebecca.
Ah,… NO character development here. Thought I would start out with a couple of heads and then go onto figure studies, thats the stuff you guys are very strong on (amongst other things. I have to learn how to look underneath the skin. Muscle insertion points and general flow seem to be my biggest hurdle. Just one more lady head and then its off to the races:).

Thanx for checking up!

A ladybust:)

Thats cool Chris. Are you using the snake hook brush for the ends of the hair? Particularly the back one could be a bit more elegant with a finer point. Sternomastoids seem a touch flared for a relaxed pose.

Love the style on it, very interesting hair treatment and kind of a funky / different colour treatment there – interesting to see what running a line above the jaw like that does, makes for a bit of double take thats kind of interesting

Hai kary.
Thanx for the comments and crits:). No snake hook just move and smooth tool and a rake alpha. Thought it would be fun to do a carnival paint on the face.

Yeah I like this too, something a bit different and unique.

Thanx Rebecca!

That’s really cool. One thing I’d say is that she has mighty big legs  and also that her center of balance seems a little off somehow. To me it seems like her right foot would have to be tucked a little more beneath her body but that’s a judgement call. There’s something a little stiff about the ankles, but I really like the exaggeration of the legs overall. Cool update!

OH, WOW!! I don’t know how I managed to miss this thread!!! Awesome work here, Chris!! Keep it going!!

I am wondering if the left arm isnt a bit short.
There are issues with the muscle shapes here and there, but I am sure you will resolve them as you go. Are you working from reference?
