If I ever finish anything, I’ll post it, but untill then:

You seem to have a good sence of form and your anatomy is shaping up real fine. Keep on going.

Hi Jho,

Looks good, can’t comment on the digital side of things, but good luck with it, sure it will be a great experience to paint

cheers and take care

Hi Jho
Glad to have found your thread
You seem like a very driven person. As a result of that, your work has tremendously improved!

very inspiring!

I was going to digipaint this one, any thoughts anyone? Please??

Maybe start doing it in grayscale or if you don’t feel like that you could do some quick and rough color tests. Just paint some big color blocks to see what effects they create. Save a few variations and compare them… Might get you going once you decided on a color scheme of your likings…

Looking forward to see more!

Thanks alot NR43!!

This is what I’we done this far:

hi there,

your anatomy sketches have vastly improved lately!

As concerns this latest greyscale sketch, I say get rid of the white parts so you can judge your values properly. create a new layer with low opacity and filled with a dark grey and position it over the whole thing and work out the values further. You will get a much nicer feel for the light and shades.

Keep going.

More heads:

Mu: I haven’t tried what you suggested yet, but I will. Do you mean that I should make the whole picture darker, or just that the darker layer would make it easier to point out mistakes.
I was thinking I should start again from the second picture, it seems like everything is going well until the third
Thanks alot for your really helful comments btw

Hey! nice thread
You said you wanted to make sexy women and that you wanted to work for marvel too, well I think that your women need wider hips, here is some reference

As you can see marvel girls tend to have wide hips and a…uhh…prominent behind o_O

I have been working on my comic book (thats why I haven’t been posting much lately:/), I thought this one came up pretty good. The position is a bit stif, but I like it for some reason.
She is Satu, the main charachter from my comic.

Jho,

Hey, great work here. I think you are right about this last one being a little stiff, and I also think that you need to work on the proportions of the legs a little bit, but I can see why you like it! Nice character, and I like the composition here too- it makes for a cool picture. I look forward to more!

A little comic I made for this one Wii forum:

Some more comics I’m working on. These are from this Finnish superhero comic, its actually the first comic ever I’m getting paid for. Its not much, but I’m still really happy. Afterall, Its very flattering
These are really bad scans, but still, here they are:

I haven’t posted much lately, I know. Its because I’m working on these two comics (plus my own album). So I thought I could post you some pages I’we done, and if there is any comic artists/fans around (and even if you aren’t:)), please tell me what you think. This is what I would like to do for living some day after all

Here you go:

Hello, Jho.

I come from a very different era of comics than you probably do. The friends I had drawing comics were people like Mike Grell, Dave Stevens, George Perez, Bil Stout, Sergio Aragones and Bill Sienkewicz among others. I’m really glad to see you in the anatomy forum. When I was first doing my work for sale, I was very much into comics and was lucky enough to get to know many of the wonderful artists at a yearly gathering known as the San Diego Comic Con. I would sit in Artists’ Alley to do my work and had the good fortune to have many of the artists give me valuable critiques.

I used to draw women with what was affectionately called “Thunder Thighs”. They would sit and show me how to improve my work. Many of them were classicly trained, some were self-taught, but almost everyone seriously studied the human form.

It’s really important, when you are going to distort the form for the Superhero treatment, that you have a firm grounding in drawing and understanding muscalature. Anytime you exagerate, you want to know what you are deviating from as well as possible.

So good for you for being here and getting into the workshops offered. Rebecca has really put together some splendid ones and you will greatly benefit from participation.

Good luck,
Cris

Hey Jho, nice thread you got going on here:) I really liked the torso studies you posted on
09-11-2006. Keep up the good work.

Cris-Palomino: What do you mean “different era of comics”?
I’m not good with names, the ones you mentioned didn’t ring a bell, but as I googled them, I recogniced alot of their work.
You certainly have some talented friends

About superhero style I’d say I’m trying to draw in simplified-realistic way. I mean I try to keep the muscles as realistic as possible, but don’t want to create completely photorealistic pictures.

The last post’s pics are from a superhero comic, but I’m also making my own comic album in wich all the characters should look pretty normal.

su: thanks alot! I had to go see wich studies you meant
Actually I’m pretty happy with them myself

Here is a pic from my upcoming album:

Hi Jho

Great to see you back posting again  and your work is improving too
Like Cris said, the more you study anatomy and get practice at drawing different poses, expressions etc, the easier it will be to exaggerate and give your characters that superhero or dynamic “in motion” look - without too much detail

keep up the work and good luck!
cheers
