The lighting on that portrait is pretty good.
I like the poses those models do in your life drawing sessions.
It must be great to draw knowing the model wants to challenge him/herself as well…
Thanks Johan !
Indeed those models are really cool. Always coming with new inspiring poses every session .
Here’s a digital value study I did at home after scanning one of my sketches. Lighting was done more or less from memories and marks I had on my sketch.

As it’s been raining all day , here are more updates.
Some master studies and 1 from imagination.

Cheers
Raining all day? wow you must be from a different part of the world than I am… This time of year is is snow snow and more snow.
I love your easy fluid style to sketching. I hope to someday gain that confidence in my stroke. I also loved the simian painting you posted on Christmas. Do you plan to take that one any further?
From a scanned drawing from imagination.
I used tips and tutorial from the great Linda Bergvist. http://www.furiae.com/index.php?view=gallery
I will try to make a color version for this one.
Let me know what you think.

Wow the first one in this last batch is really REALLY beautiful!
(Man I miss life drawing class!)
so what’s your opinion on the vine charcoal sticks?
pretty challenging medium, no?
Thanks Johan!
I really like the smooth texture of Charcoal. Marks are so dark that you have to think before putting the vine down. I quite enjoy it, but it’s a challenging medium indeed. I planned on making some studies from photo refs to see how it goes if I get a little more time.
In the meantime here’s a study done on tablet pc. Photo ref from Mjranum-stock on Deviant art.

I recently subscribed to DrawingForce website, by Mike Mattesi.
After watching the great videos I tried to apply the concepts of force and forceful shapes to some studies from photo reference.
I used images from the great photo website 1x.com, artist is asit and some other that I forgot to write down.

great variety in the SB. thanks for posting! I love your caricature work. Tried to get into it last summer, but that didn’t go anywhere. nice to your progress.
Thanks a lot Victor
It’s been long time I didn’t do any proper caricature work. I should get back to it.

Wondeful sketchbook… I have nothing to crit. I also want to study animation, though I understand it’s a huge time investment. It’s still relevant to drawing. Even those posing, silhouette exercises, mimic, it’s so much important. I like animationmentor, but in no way can afford it. I hope I will start learning animation in 1-2 years.
Of course, if you can, you should work from real life references rather than digesting someone else works, though those also can be useful.
