You are right Martin. You did really great with that figure.
As for the hand with the question mark. I’d suggest doing it again perhaps. Currently it looks like its broken.

Hi…Martin…
Lots of drawings…nice…
You might want to try useing a SUMI BRUSH and BLACK INK for your quick drawings.
You can get more expressive feeling with a single brush stroke, than you can with a
lot of thin lines some times…it also forces you to see VOLUMES, DARKS, AND LIGHTS
all at the same time.
Do a lot of master studies like Rebecca says, and you’ll be able to see a fast and great
improvement in all of your work…a proven method…

like the girl a lot, Martin. well done

and with this master-copy-thing: you probably won’t find progress after the first bunch of them, but with time you’ll understand the patterns on the bodies, and you’ll find lines and patterns that are repeated through drawings of different masters etc…

hope this makes sense

Rebecca: Will do! I’ve started on some michelangelo work.
Queensoul: Hands can be tricky monkeys… i’ll be doing many many more! Thanks for the compliment on my girl figure study!
Spirit Dreamer: I think I may start an ink book just to try out your idea! I’ve got a nice thick moleskin just perfect for that! Thanks!
El Chief: If I make the sort of progress you’ve made, then i’m sold!

I’ve just picked up The Artist’s Complete Guide to Figure Drawing by Anthony Ryder. Very useful read! Thanks for the recommendation Rebecca!

I disappoint myself today. :frowning:

Not bad, Martin! Keep going. Try testing out some of those techniques you’ve been reading about.

Cheers,

Raphael and Mucha studies. I’m learning more about light slowly…

#107

Some Rembrandt and Dürer studies in ink. I enjoyed these ones, even if they don’t work.

#108

Wow - you’re really productive here! I wouldn’t agree that the ink sketches doesn’t work… I like them, especially the right one.

Hi …Martin…
I agree with Gunilla
Now your on the right track…I threw away my pencil a long time ago.
Pencils make it to easy to erase your thoughts, as your drawing and learning.
With ink… once you put the line down, it’s there for good, or for worse and all
you can do is cover it with another darker line, and replace that first not so good
thought with a better thought.
Pencils are for doing very tight renderings, and that is a whole different technique
and is used to make finished rendered drawings…these can be very beautiful, once
you master the technique.
Something you might try out on your next ink drawing…wet your finger or thumb
and rub it over or into the shadow areas in your drawing, while the ink is still wet.
When it is dry, you can go back into it, with more line if it needs more.
Nice to see you useing ink and I hope to see more…those last ones you just posted
look really good…TO ME…
