I agree, nice work, Martin! :wip:
Sketchbook Thread of Erilaz (Large dl)
Hi Erilaz !!
Awesome work is going on here… I especially love the skeleton sketches in the first pages , wow, those are really impressive , Thx for sharing them… I’m so gonna use it as ref
saving in my anat ref folder
keep up the great work mate !
Thanks a lot guys! I really mean that. A LONG way to go yet, but little by little I’m becoming more comfortable SEEING things.
Happy feet!

Martin,
Some really nice observational drawings here ~ on the first sheet, the center top drawing is quite nice, and on the second sheet, the top two right images are lovely. Keep going, you are definitely making good progress here!
Cheers,
~Rk
Thanks Rebecca! I’m starting to feel comfortable with drawing with a pencil again. Feels good!
Here’s a few quick 2 minute gestures… not great, but at least i’m practicing!

I think I recognize a conceptarter!
I like the little cartoon guy too ~ haven’t seen you do that style before, I kind of like it.
Definitely do more of the gestural studies ~ to get really good, limit yourself to 2 minutes on some of the 15 MS poses!
Cheers,
~Rk
HEY, really cool work in here…
Love the foots’ studies.
Looking foward to see more.
cheers
Rebecca: Thanks! I’ve been doing cartoony things since i was about 8. I never really laid down a definate style though. I draw more comfortably in cartoony though. Most of those gestures were from the 15min reference, but they’re pretty poor so it’s hard to recognise!
Diego_R: Glad you like the feet! I don’t think people do enough foot studies. Poor little feet, all neglected down there!
Thanks for dropping in!
MORE SLEEPY!

MORE GESTURE!

MORE FAT SUNBATHERS!

MORE QUICK DRAWS!

Carry on!
Ouhh - you really have some amazing studies here - I really like the early skull studies - but also the quick sketches. Some good feel of movement in there.
A LONG way to go yet, but little by little I’m becoming more comfortable SEEING things.
It shows - the foot studies are great, keep seeing! ![]()
Thanks Gunilla! Much respect for your work!
Everybody should do more foot studies!
Here’s a couple from today:

And so on:

Martin,
Really liking that last figure sketch from ARC. Very sensitive, nice.
I think you ought to try more master studies. Erich has been making some great headway by doing these ~ I think it’s one of the fastest ways to improve one’s drawings.
Keep it up!
Cheers,
~Rk
Well spotted! It means it actually LOOKS like the study I referenced! Thanks! You’re right though… the more I study the work of other people the more I pick up.
That and that awesome book you recommended!
Oh, here’s the reference if anyone else is interested: http://www.artrenewal.org/articles/2004/Scholarship/results1.asp
Master Studies are definitely the way to go. While contemporary work may be a source of inspiration, I would go further back and copy the work of the masters. I think you’ll pick up a lot more, a lot more quickly, that way. Let’s see some master copies, Martin! :bounce:
