Sketchbook Thread of Ellie

Hi…Ellie…
I like the refinements on that macaw…the proportions are pretty much ok…only the flight feathers, the ones that run out at the top of the wings, could be a tad longer, and the top of the farthest away wing, should be a darker sky blue color, and the same with the top of the head…need more color in those two areas…It’s a blue and gold macaw…they have a beautiful turquise blue on thier backs, top side of wings, and heads…used as camaflage when flying, so the eagles have a hard time seeing them from above.
I spoon fed and raised one years ago…when I used to raise exotic birds…turned out great, and yes he for sure loved shiny things, …especally peoples rings, which he would ever so gently crush and bend on thier fingers…always having to run and get the pliers to straighten out the rings…LOL…:scream: …Your painting brought back a fond memory…THANKS.

Hi Mr. SpiritDreamer,

we had some parrots when I was a child.

Noe, life drawing, the hand of my boyfriend an the overpaint by myself digitally. I really try to understand volume and how to create it. Hard to get, I tend to struggle in a very chaotic way because of impatience and I deal much too gentle with values, espeacially doing something analog, because I think: don’t make a single mistake,
better to be careful.

But that really looks flat, lol.

And I find it hard to decide how to shade, crossover or other kinds of strokes. And then I got chaos with this.

Ciao,
Ellie

Hi…Ellie…

I like the hand, and am glad to see you getting into them at this point…really will benifit all of your paintings down the road…you might consentrate on the underlying bone and tendon structure…wrist, knukles ect…A really FANTASTIC book, and one that I highly reccomend to anyone who is studying hands, is…DRAWING DYNAMIC HANDS by BURNE HOGARTH…you can get through Amazon .com on the internet, or just about any good book store.
It is a great book, and will answer all the questions that you expressed in your post, and a whole lot more…That book is one of the most valued treasures in my home library…
LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING MORE OF YOUR WORK, ALWAYS A GREAT PLEASURE…

Hi,

thank you both. Ah, last week we went to Mallorca for vacations, an island in the Mediterranean. Wonderful wheather, warm water, high waves, sunny and beautiful landscapes. Unfortunateley the CF Card in my digicam failed and we only have the lowres pics from the handy of my daughter. But better than nothing.

No back, it is cold and dark here in germany. Want to go back to the south.

But today another figure drawing session. Lights up my life, hehe.

Heya Ellie,

It’s good to see how prolific you’ve been. Glad to hear your vacation went well - must have been a lot of fun.

Your macaw image turned out really nicely - but you know I really like the creepy foetal imagery better - very cool stuff. Am glad to hear the life drawing sessions are going well.

Cheers,

Hi,

yes, sometimes I like them more, too. Surgical stuff for inspiration and main anatomy for the right creature to do this. Psst, I am a bit lazy the last time.

How to translate. Hope this is correct, done for fun.

“Don’t enunciate me” or The amputation of truth.

I love the work you’ve done… And I love your whimsical sense of humor! You’ve improved so much from your first post! And the bird is awesome!

Hi all,

I got to stop for a while, because my arm ached (don’t know how you call it, a mouse-arm lol) :frowning: but now I try with a lot patience not to do too much… hard for me just looking and not drawing. But this is for fun, nor ref used.

Ciao,
Ellie

Steps

and final, I feel beeing 15 again doing this.

Hi, nice sketches you have here!
I really like your macaw painting…I love parrots
And that santa claus one, hahaha, that’s so funny!

#234

Some lovely work here!

#235

Hi Elliepowerterribly sorry to hear about your arm (I’m having the same issue but I’m fortunate enough to draw lefthanded and having the syndrom at my right arm, also from “mousing”.)
Hope all is better now!!

That is some wild pose you’ve given that horse-ish creature

#236

Hi…Ellie…

I miss seeing your imagination at play and work…sorry to hear about the arm…maybe it’s time to invest in a pen and tablet…it will be money well spent for sure I think…so much more can be done with a pen and tablet, that a mouse just cannot do…plus a whole lot easier on the joints…
Hows your life class going by the way…just started a figure drawing class myself…having a ball in that class…was inspired by you going back to school…feels a little strange at first, being older than the teacher…but have gotten used to it…good for the old spirit…:scream:
I like the horse/raptor…great idea…:applause:
LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING MORE OF YOUR CREATIONS…

Ellie,

Have you been painting all this time with a mouse? o_O If you can, please please get a tablet! It’s called carpal tunnel syndrome and this can be very very dangerous, so I definitely encourage you to invest in a Wacom tablet if at all possible. It’s just not worth risking your health to paint with a mouse!

Hi,

nooo, I have an intuos and drawing is not the main problem. It is typing… and a wrong and unhealthy pose in front of the keyboard for many years my doc told me. Mostly this problems are owned by musicians and datatypists. In my job as a DTP-Operator I had to work a lot with the keyboard and mouse for many years.

Now I am “mousing” lol with my left hand, try to type less and to sit more ergonomic in front of my keyboard. Hardest thing for me is to draw less… so I spend more time reading books about art or to look around here… BTW great fineprints Rebecca.

Ellie

God! here is another great thread I completely missed! Awesome paintings, Elliepower! Great to see such imagination!:bounce:

Hi,

thx

So, yesterday the doctor said, it is a chronical tendosynovitis and I have to be careful using my arm. The pain is very low but consistant, there is no carpaltunnelsyndrom and the meridian nerv seems to be ok. I am not satisfied, because I think there must be something to heal this damned f…ing arm… lol

At the moment I took out the pressure from the wacom and try generally to draw with less pressure.

So, I visit the figure drawing course I booked, it is much fun.

30 min with ballpen and correction of the right leg by our teacher. Nice model, hehe…

and a funny excercise, our model walked slowmotion and we had to capture the anatomy in 3 min. from all sides.

And, doodeling with Rubens… pencil A5
